Default My first featherweight

So I bought my first feather weight ... If it seems to be running smoothly should I have my serviceman give it a service anyway? Thank you for your input ...

I wouldn't. Instead, download the manual from the Internet, get out your oil ,grease, soft rags, and clean it up yourself. That's a lot more fun.

Cleaning and oiling it yourself will be more satisfying, less expensive and will make you more familiar with your machine. If it's running and sewing smoothly then this is the perfect time for you to do it. There's nothing to repair, just make sure you put things back the way you found them if you take anything apart.
Triflow is most recommended for sewing machine oil here, if not that then any sewing machine oil will work. Don't use 3 in 1 oil or WD-40 or anything but sewing machine oil or triflow. Other oils will gum up the works eventually and some can damage the finish. For parts that need grease a good lightweight synthetic is recommended.
Enjoy your new machine and Merry Christmas!

I bought my first Featherweight this week as well! I was wondering about this myself. It did not have the original manual with it, so where is it for download on the internet?

Not hard to clean, oil and lube. Just follow the manual instructions. No need to spend the money for servicing.

I believe Novas Featherweight web site offers monthly maintenance tips and archives for reference. I also found a group do Featherweight owners who meet and sew one day a month and are a wealth of information and support. Enjoy your new toy

I am always so excited when I hear someone is a new FW owner. They are so much fun to have.... easy to work with and easy to take to classes or work days with your quilting friends. Congrats!
