Oiling a vintage Singer?
#1
Is there a specific oil to use or can I use any standard sewing machine oil? I want to oil both the machine and the treadle. I've read where certain parts need to be greased as well, but couldn't find anything in the manual about that. The manual only shows where to oil the machine and the treadle. It's a 1955 201k. Thanks!!!!

From my understanding, and I could be wrong, the grease is inside the workings of the machine. I let my repair person take care of that since he knows what he's doing. He warned me, though, to make sure to only put 1 drop in each of the oil holes.

With my vintage Singers I use standard sewing machine oil from Walmart, I think they only carry Singer brand at my Walmart. I oil anything that moves inside the machine except the geard parts. All the gears get grease, I use Singer grease (lube in a tube from Joann).

Yeah just the standard sewing machine oil will be perfect. Just make sure you oil your treadle with the sewing machine oil at all the pivot points and where metal will rub metal, basically the same thing you do when you oil your machine.
Never use grease on the treadle!!!
