Default Overdue photos: Rocketeer, 99K, and a new addition

Finally got some time to get these off my camera yesterday, but for some reason it wouldn't let me upload them. Seem to be working now, let's see...

The Rocketeer:

It's so nice to sew on. I'm keeping my eyes open for a small Singer cabinet for it now. I don't know where it'll go, but I will MAKE it fit! I have wanted one of these for SO long...

Here's the 99K - stiff with gunk when I bought it, just a little cleaning and now sews great! There's a few scratches on the bed but otherwise it's in really good shape, the decals are nearly perfect. The Rocketeer is the coolest looking machine I have, but this one is the prettiest.

And this just jumped into my arms at the thrift shop the other day. It was only $15 and I tried to leave it there. I tried really hard but I just couldn't. It's a Kenmore 158.16510 and weighs about as much as a six year old.

It's clean and smooth and it sews great. Doesn't need a thing done to it. I found a YouTube video of somebody sewing through five layers of leather with one of these. I couldn't find any leather to test on and briefly considered sticking my finger in there but then came to my senses, so I can't really vouch for this one's leather and/or finger-sewing prowess. It's my first two-tone body machine - kind of hard to tell in the pic but it's sort of a cream and pale mint green. And I have absolutely no idea what I'm going to do with it, but I know I'll get way more than $15 worth of fun out of playing with it!

Great looking machines. Got an old leather belt? Try it. I found an old pair of leather boots with a zipper. My 401 sewed through that like butter. DH thought I was nuts. Of course you want to use the appropriate needle and thread.

The Rocketeer will also fit in the 301/400series/500series card table, FYI. That's why I love that model card table because I can rotate my 301s, 401 and 500 and then fold it up and put it away when not in use:>

there's a card table for the 3/4/500 series?! I just bought a card table for $12 it doesn't have the cut out insert but it does have a simanco number. how can you tell the difference between the featherweight table and the other one?

Go to http://ismacs.net/singer_sewing_mach..._cabinets.html and there are photos of all the card table models. The shortbed 301/400series/500series card table is model 314. They're very easy to tell apart. The long bed 301 table insert is longer. I have several of this 314 model, a FW table, a longbed 301 table.

Actually, the info on ISMACS is very incomplete. There is a much more comprehensive list of the tables with pics done by Wes Taylor in the files of the Vintage Singer Library, an off shoot of the Vintage Singer Yahoo group. I'm hesitant to post it here but you can look it up. The table models are listed as such:

table models 308 and 312 are for FWs
table model 311 is for 99s and 128s
table model 313 is for 99s
table model 314 is for 301 longbeds
table model 315 is for 301 shortbeds - the modifications needed to make a 401 or 500 fit this table result in the machine sitting too low in the table so that the bobbin slide plate will scratch the table when opened.

table model 316 is for 401s - a 301 shortbed will fit, sits a little low but will work

and finally, they show a pic of an undetermined model # table that fits a 500 in the case base.

Cari, my card table is a shortbed 301 and with no modifications it fits the 301, 401 and 500 very well. So, I'm confused. LOL.

Nice machines! I too have a 99 which is in a cabinet. I got it along with a Singer treadle (66 if I remember right) from the same couple. I too think the 99 is cute but I also lust after a Rocketeer. Some day perhaps. And thanks everyone else for the cabinet information. I need to copy that all down for future reference.
