Default Plan "B" in progress.

Hello all,

A few months back I made a quilt for my granddaughter for her murphy bed. Plans at the time was to make a drop down desk that would stow away when the bed was in use. Everything was made and hardware was purchased and I was ready to install. Well my daughter decided to opt for a stand alone
desk for Kylee. Soooooooooo, now what to do, what to do! AhHa, put plan "B" into effect. The following picture will show how to spruce up a vintage Riccar machine with a desk top. I think this may help with bindings and I am trying my hand at FMQ. Enjoy.

Very cool. You may find that during FMQing the quilt will catch on the corners. You could always round them off so the quilt doesn't get stuck. Did you use a cabinet door or?

That was the desk top that was made of the same oak and stained to match the murphy bed that I made for Kylee. I just cut out the material to slip over the machine base I made a few weeks back from scraps left over from the bed. I plan on making a few more bases and all will have the same dimensions as the one in the picture. There is a small radius on the edges now and I plan on using a roundover bit to rework the edges since it's no longer for a desk.

What great thinking on your part! This looks like it has lots of space to maneuver a quilt for fmq.

Plan B is a winner!! Sometimes it's good when Plan A changes.

I love plan B! That's a great setup! The best of both worlds-a large work area like a cabinet machine but it's portable and you can store it easily when it's not being used.
Great idea Rodney!
