Ideal Automatik = Brother ????
1 Attachment(s)
I have this machine:
It is badged as an "IDEAL AUTOMATIK". A decal under the bed says "MADE IN REPUBLIC OF IRELAND", and all the control names are written in German. It had the original 220 V motor on it when I got it. I replaced it with a motor kit from Sew-Classic since I couldn't find a voltage converter for it. Now, this machine is a Brother. Marked underneath J-C 1 witch indicates brother. Obviously a Japanese casting assembled in Ireland for the German market. What I have tried a number of times, on a couple forums is to determine which model Brother this machine corresponds to so I can hunt up a manual. It's similar to a 190, but the 190 does not use cams and this one does. So, I'm asking for help to determine once and for all, what Brother model is this machine? I have exhausted my search ability so any help is appreciated. If anyone needs any more info, just ask. Joe |
with that set of buttons and knobs and dials, I see a sad faced cyclops.... but it is a cool machine. With I knew more...

Joe I don't know much but it looks like it would be a dandy machine.

I am not sure what the true colors are on that machine but I find them very soothing. The colors make me want to go curl up somewhere with a nice frothy hot Cappuccino.:)

190 Flairmatic but that doesn't have the disks |
Yeah, the 190 is the closest I've found too. But the controls and the lack of cams make a non match. I'm beginning to think this might have been a European only model with no corresponding Brother machine. I hope not though. Joe

Here's a couple more pics of the machine:
The front bed extension makes sewing big things really easy. It came with a complete set of cams. They work pretty good too. It only came with one foot, so I'm working to put together a basic set of accessories. It's a low shank center homing machine so that shouldn't be too hard. Joe |
I've vowed to limit myself from acquiring any more Japanese type machines, no matter what color, no more Singers, no more Kenmores, no Whites, (well maybe). But if I'd seen that one in the thrift store, I'd be a hop skippin for the checkout line! Is that be extension curved laminate? nice
