Crossstitcher, your granddaughters are off to a great start. Very nice job!

The quilt with a past

I went Goodwill shopping several months ago and found a hugh bag of fabric scraps for $1.50. Got it home and found out that it was actually a bag of quilt blocks, enough to make 2 nice sized quilts, mostly hand sewn.

It made me wonder what became of the person who so lovingly and patiently sewed these tiny little squares together by hand . . . and then didn't finish the quilt.

I sat down this weekend with the blocks and my 201.

So here is my quilt with a past. I hope the lady that never got to finish her quilt would like what I did.

KAT, the quilt is very pretty. It has a lovely vintage look as it should.

KAT, Good for you to finish the quilt, nicely done!

Lara, I love the colors in the wall hanging - or is it a table topper? Beautiful echo quilting too! The scissors hooked on your 301 is a little trick I do too! Love the little quilt - great job!

Monica, what a cool idea - a hammock quilt! As always you make very pretty quilts - your trademark seems to be adding little inidividual blocks on one side! Your quilts are always so inviting! I know you design them yourself - what a great job!

Kat that is just the nicest thing to do! Someone is smiling down at you right now . . . . to see her quilt finished and displayed for all to see! How cool is that! That is really a 'pay it forward' gesture! Great looking quilt too!

Oh Kat, that is such a touching thing you have done! Your work goes perfectly with the vintage look! The lady who started the quilt would surely be thrilled!

Nancy, thank you for the kind words. I'm not sure which my swap partner will use it as - wall or table. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who hangs their scissors from the stitch length thingy.

Nancy, Not all of my work is my design. I just finished this one today.

I fell in love with this gal's work http://www.fromthebluechair.com/2012...challenge.html. Well, I just had to have one for myself. So, yes, I swiped her pattern. :) Well not totally, since she had taken the New York Beauty block from Donna Duquette to create a color wheel. But I'll give her all credit here on the QB for designing a pretty color wheel. My center isn't exactly the same as hers, and my binding is typical of me, a decorative stitching. This was my first in using circles or curves. I found using the treadle extremely helpful for attaching the curve pieces. Paper piecing was done on a Singer 201, straight stitch quilting 201 and Davis NVF, and binding on Singer 224.

I like your quilting on that one, it really plays up the color wheel design.

vintagemotif 07-23-2012 07:25 PM

Thank you Chris and Bennett. The quilting is almost exactly the same as the gal that I copied from. It was a very fun project since I was able to use up some of my scraps.
