Happyquiltmom, Pretty mini quilt! I like the quilting on the border.

Better late than never Charlee....and it's beautiful too! Vintagemotif....how can you not like the front....stunning both sides and the others, well you put me to shame. I've fired up Jasper (1950's Pinnock) and am doing a string quilt for my soon to be S/DIL. I'm hoping to have it done before Christmas.

Quiltmom, I love the quilt and the appliqued flowers look like something from Piece o' Cake's designs! Great job on that wall hanging!

Irishrose, Judy all I can say is WOW you pieced the front and the back! What a truly reversibile quilt! What a great gift too! I looked and looked at that quilt, but both sides look perfect - that is extremely hard to do - to get both sides to look like a complete quilt, instead of one side looking like it was made to fit the size of the other side!

Charlee, what a great feeling to finish something you started 30 years ago! I'd love to see that embroidery up close! It has to be hand done?

Arianna beautiful! Did you paper piece the compass? If that is your first quilt - I'd say look out world here you come!

Melinda I love the red and blue of your quilt! That one looks like a nice quilt for your DH to cuddle with! I like the way you did each row with a different block!

I feel like it's Christmas every time I finally get a chance to come back here--so much beautiful work to see!

Melinda, the D9P is nice and cheery. The gingham checks are fun, I need to get more of those for my own stash. I'm thinking the next quilt I do is going to be a scrappy D9P.
Maria, those are beautiful rich colors. Your points are so nice and neat too--great work!
Charlee, I have a soft spot for anything with that "cobalt" blue and white. I think that blue is just about the color of my dining room walls, believe it or not. Bet it feels good to get it finished.
IrishRose, I had a little out-loud "oohh, it's reversible!" moment when I scrolled down and saw the rest of your pics. :) Love the scrappy colors.
Happyquiltmom, your attention to detail is great. If it weren't shown on the cutting mat, I'd want to cuddle up with it on a cool winter day.

good advice

Okay I just spent a good hour here drooling over the great quilts you all have made and tucking away inspiration for the future! All the more wonderful to see what was made with vintage machines!

I followed the wise advice i was given here on the Vintage section and found out you all were not exagerating when you said a Singer 301 is a great machine for free motion work. This is the first quilt I made on "Ginger"... my first attempt ever at machine sewn raw edge applique and a mini quilt (14" x 18") for the Doll Quilt Swap. Guess what? For once I had fun trying to free motion quilt! And I love my 301 so much that I put away my Baby Lock for the rare times i'll want to use it.

Very pretty, lovely colors, and your machine is gorgeous!!! Welcome to the vintage world.

Welcome to the 301 club. What a lovely little quilt. Beautiful colors and quilting. If the 301 would suddenly develop a needle down feature, that would be the only improvement it needs for FMQ. I love my plain little mocha one, but yours is very pretty. My Elna is not put away. She did her usual wonderful satin stitching and buttonhole stitching on my last quilt, but she's vintage so I could still post here.

Cute little quilt! It makes me wish for fall to get here with the rusty reds and autumn tones.

Lara...Your little quilt is so beautiful!

SewExtremeSeams 07-06-2012 08:21 AM

Oh yes, Lara, your little quilt is beautiful. I have not FMQed on either of my 301 machines but you certainly have peaked my interest. I love it for piecing though. Great little machine!
