Jane what a beautiful quilt! I love those two color quilts - black and red are really nice together. What is the New 160 Anniversary you used for quilting? I really like the little flower you embroidered on the label with your information - what a really special touch to add to the quilt! How cool that the blocks are all so different - did you design the quilt? There is one block with one small black square set off center in the block, one block with floating triangles, one with upside down trees -- really cool trying to figure out each block!

My 1956 301 pieced and FMQed another quilt with a little help from a recently rescued Montgomery Wards from the 70s (serpentine stitch in the first border). Jewel Box in jewel tones - much brighter than the picture.

Irishrose, I love the jewel tones - so bright! Also, what a great job you did - even doing mitered corners! Beautiful quilt!

Yes, I believe it is called a Disappearing 9 Patch though I've never made it before. I feel in love with the colors and can hardly wait to get started with it. I'm thinking of putting a little border around it. I'll let you know how it turns out.

IrishRose that is lovely! So bright and cheery. Are you saying you FMDed it on your 301??? Wow. I'll have to try that ... since I have two of them. What foot did you use? I see a lot of practicing in my future!

irishrose 04-25-2012 02:41 PM

totosmom, I use a FMQ foot from april1930sshoppe. but I think sew-classic carries it now, too. April ships free, so I have bought several things there. This quilt was an allover meander - usually I work block by block. For SITD, I use a SITD foot from April and just loosen the pressure on the presser foot a bit. I've never needed a walking foot for this machine.

Irishrose, that is a beautiful Jewel Box!

Here is one I finished just in time for my guild's spring challenge (it won 1st place in the home dec category):

Appliqued by hand with #12 perle cotton, machine pieced on my Singer 401A, FMQed on my vintage 1970's Bernina Record 830.

happyquiltmom, that is gorgeous. I'm so glad hand applique isn't a lost art.
