Though the cabinet is neat conceptually...

I like the design of the cabinet, too. But the wood (if it is wood) is awful. I want one in oak, maple, or other light colored hard wood, please.

They don't have any plastic inside?

http://kansascity.craigslist.org/fuo/3988982776.html ~ I bought this for $10. It is missing the power cord from the cabinet to the outlet altho the seller swears she has it somewhere. Cabinet needs works, including veneer work, and needs major reconstructive work to be out back together so it'll hold together. Has a lazy Susan spool holder in the 1st drawer which the seller didn't know about. She did say she'd look for the cord but it takes a regular female end so hoping I can find something if the power cord decides not to be found. Could have also gotten a free kitten but DH said no emphatically.

Sheluma 08-13-2013 07:15 PM

Wow! Just those needles are worth 10x what you paid! And there's an old Singer seam guide still in the package! I like the cabinet. I hope the kitten finds as good of a home.

In the 4th picture, what is the part in the upper left?

Sheila, it's the bobbin winder. The needles are older milliner needles so don't know if they're for a machine or hand sewing. Will investigate more tomorrow. I love those old seam guides. Very handy. I think it was used to make clothes because there's tape like for a seam allowance but nit a 1/4 inch allowance. Nice attachments too. I am pleased with the purchase and hope the cabinet is salvageable.

Oh -- I hope there are some machine needles -- is this the machine that takes unusual needles?
This is part of the bobbin winder?

Yeah, it needs to go to the SteveH machine hospital.

"May need some repairs"? Um, what was their first clue; the gaping hole near the stitch plate? Or the tuft of toilet paper trying to stuff the thread spool holder?

That said, it does look like a cool machine.

Cecilia S. 08-14-2013 04:33 AM

Oh, and missing tension dial!

Dial-o-matic? What's to dial? The tension knob seems to be missing. it looks like they stuck a q tip in the spool pin hole and it fell in! But yes, it's kinda cool.

I don't know if the machine takes unusual needles...yet!! I believe what you are seeing in the photo are feet and parts of feet. I hope to play with the stuff in the drawers today at the very least and get the cabinet plus machine into the hospital (my living room) today. I will post about the needle packets later. The machine came with a manual so that may clear up the unusual needle question ~ I hope.

chris_quilts 08-14-2013 10:08 AM

The machine does take the CC1221 type of needles. I believe I have possibly 50 packets of those almost all in one size. So far have only found one packet that's a different size. The machine manual is very interesting to read and the feed dogs drop for darning (yeah right) but also FMQ.

Does it have a knob under the bed, like the 15-91, that drops the feed dogs?

chris_quilts 08-14-2013 02:22 PM

Mark;

There is a thumb screw underneath that releases the feed lifting crank and renders the feed dogs inoperable. The stitch regulator is moved to the neutral position.

I am wondering if this manual is also good for my other New Home Lite Running sewing machine and if that beast takes the special aka weird needles which I assume are no longer findable.

LMBO!! Other than that though, I suspect that the price isn't that far off of realistic, based on the original selling price...

Yep. A sowing machine. A machine for sowing. Spreading seeds and making buttonholes. That's the life.

Sheluma 08-14-2013 09:15 PM

Help! Should I buy this? It might be already gone.
http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/atq/4002070275.html

What do they mean by "The machine itself now turns on but doesn't operate through the peddle"? How do they know this? Is it possible to plug the motor in directly, not thru the controller? I'm wondering how much I would have to spend to get it working.

I can't tell if there are any decals left but for $75 it doesn't matter. Also, the spool holder is missing.

SteveH 08-14-2013 09:24 PM

great machine good deal

Sheluma 08-14-2013 11:26 PM

SteveH, do you have one? I'd love to get a hand crank or treadle, but they're expensive. I have to check out the needles it takes.

It's a bargain, all right, but why do the idiots all call them "peddles". It's actually easier to spell it right!

I make it no secret that I like Pfaff's. This one is in less than pristine condition and they have the nerve to say,"You will be hard pressed to find one in this condition for this price.". There is another one on CL for about 1/3 this price of $600 and it is in much better condition too. Who are these people?

Grant I don't know who they are but they are EVERYWHERE... ignorant. I home schooled my kidos. One thing I wanted them to know was how to find information they needed and evaluate that information. They are all good at that for sure. I'm afraid schools teach facts and figures and what to think. I taught my kidos HOW to think for themselves. They just don't know much... LOL :D
