Heads up for anyone looking, there's a nice looking Singer 401 for sale in the Weatherford, TX area--really good price too: http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/atq/2835349973.html

Miriam, did you buy it for parts then?

Kathie S. 02-05-2012 07:47 PM

Not sure about the whole hand crank, never done it, what do you all think of hand crank sewing?[/QUOTE]

I have three hand cranks and I love them. I had one 7 yr and one 8 yr sew on them and they reaction was what fun.
It worked out very for them as it makes them pay attention to what they are doing. Kathie

Hey Nancy or others in the Sac. area here's a 401 for a decent price if it's working fine. http://sacramento.craigslist.org/hsh/2832976648.html I'd get it if I didn't already own one!

Candace,
Gee, I wonder which price is the one they want. $80.00 or $60.00. <VBG>

Miriam, I thought the 500 I got last week was a sorry case. Although I have cleaned it up during the game and she runs smooth and quiet. Now just need the knob for the tension to see how she sews. But lots of paint gone along with the top lid and faceplate.

They will still sew without the lid or face plate. I went to bed - who won?

Yep, I sent them an e-mail asking where in Sac they are located. Haven't heard back. I guess I will call today.

I picked up a dreadful looking Singer 500 this afternoon. Head shaking. The lady said this one was her mother's. Ya sure. She just got out of church, too. That machine had a straight sew foot, no other attachments, no disks, no manual, light hanging half off, hinge pin gone, top door falling off, the stitch selector is always messed up, the throat plate lever rusted out, bad cords, runs slow, paint blistering, no case, no cabinet and so on............ She is going to need some TLC to say the least.

Miriam, I hope the lady just gave you the machine! You will work wonders on it I am sure!
