This was a very nice score indeed!! Oh before I forget if you could take the face plate off of the machine (it has the tension assembly on it) and look behind it and see if there are any markings or a trademark on it. if there is you think you can take a photo of it also? Billy |

I remember reading here (I think) what size wire (16/2?) to use when replacing the wire from plug in the machine to foot pedal (Singer 201 - bought for my daughter but the wiring is almost totally wrapped in electrical tape) I want to replace it before I give it to her. Can someone help with the answer or point me in the right direction?

I would rewire the bakelite piece, I have done several and they are easy to do. The bakelite piece has two screws on it that you undo and then it comes in halves. You take the brass connectors out of the housing and unscrew the thumb screw to to take the wires off. Be careful not to loose the little nuts and pieces that come off of the housing. they are tiny and it would be frustrating to have to look for them if they hit the floor. Go get an indoor extension cord that is 16/2 wired and cut the end off that has the female pug in's on it and separate the wiring and stip back about 1/2" of the insulation. Here is the tricky part getting the wires on the little lugs. there is a notch in the lug for the wire to come through when it is in the housing so make sure you have the wire entering there. Once you have the lugs on the wire then put them back into the housing and put the halves back together and you are good to go!! |
I have a 1948 Singer 66-16 which I am thinking of getting fixed up to use for machine quilting since there is so much more room than on my Bernina. But, as far as I know, there is no way to drop the feed dogs. Is that something I could get a repairman (or woman!) to put in for me? Or should I just focus on ways to cover the feed dogs? Thanks for any advice you can give me!

Someone asked, so here you go. Oh do I have it BAAAADDDDD!
Took a quick inventory to go with it. In the garage, 7 treadles and 9 with tails. In the house 5 treadles, FW, Hand crank, 5 electric (Alco, everyday machine, backup, serger and GE toy). I'm pathetic, now to get them running. Oh quilt addict, I do not want to go there. But I'm afraid I'm on my way... My husband says I'm "working on catching up." However, I may have found some will power. Today I looked at 3 machines, including a treadle for $40... and didn't buy any of them. But I am still an enabler...
