Here's the new paint job. Miriam is right, easier to coordinate color with the hand wheel. My brother built the box, I sanded and painted. The machine goes from a clickity, clickity to a hum when in the wooden box. Gotta take that screw to a hardware store and see if it is a standard.

Nice box for the 185! The paint looks a lot better.

Good to know about the gun cleaner. I would stand it up right side up and put tri flow around both bars. Leave it in time out for a while.
Then have a drink myself. :D:D:D

Tension Tamer Tea??? I give that machine a few squirts every time I go past it. Lots of dried up oil inside. Hard to penetrate I'm thinking.

years of indoctrination - there are tons of other machines out there that are really good.

Nancy have you disappeared?

redmadder.... it's looking really nice. My favorite color is green. I could LOVE this machine.

Why singers? I can still get the parts when I buy one... when the slide plate is gone, or the bobbin case is bent. I don't think I could get what I needed if I got another brand. And these singers were made so well. I still LOVE the click, click, click they make when they work. ... music to my ears. The clack-clack-clack of new machines drives me crazy... can hardly be in the same room.

The old ones sew very well and are easy to find parts for. Out of my vintage machine herd, only 2 aren't Singers. They are made well and don't ask if I'm sure that I really need to sew that today. It's really a shame that new Singer machines are such garbage.
