I could have offered less, but it didn't feel right with both adults home knowing that a local manufacturing just teminated 300 employees the day before Thanksgiving.

You did great on the deal and they offered the shuttle machines even into the mid 60's. Kenmore had one in 1965.

My case is in beautiful condition. I bet some of that Old English oil for dark/medium wood would make yours look brand new. The only thing I found wrong with my machine is that I can't adjust the stitch length. When I turn the knob, nothing happens - the stitch length remains the same.

Do you mean a Singer 301? If so you need the cradle for it so you can mount it in the cabinet.

I have a cradle for one but you need to find a cabinet that a 16.5" bed will fit it so long as it is a shortbed machine.

I found a link to a webpage that has a picture of the cabinet. Singer called the cabinet a #74 Spinet, made specifically for the Singer 301; currently has a black 301 in it. Only the short bed 301s will fit.
My cabinet is blonde colored but otherwise looks like this one.

My 319 came in a cabinet just like this one. It's a darker color.I really like it because you have plenty of leg room.
