Is the belt really tight then? If you move the belt shifter across and then rotate the wheel towards you with your hand you should be able to flick the belt off.

Do I flick the belt off at the hand wheel or below by the belt shifter? The belt is snug, maybe I got it too tight?

Karen/Windblown,
Welcome to the wonderful world of vintage sewing machines. I like using my treadle machines, I have 4; one of them look just like your red eye Singer.

Thank you for the welcome I love this little girl already. Just so much fun and memories for me. my next quilt blocks will be pieced on this one. I would have more if I had the space. I do have an old Elna grasshoper of my Grandmothers that I'm going to fix up next, I never knew there were so many resources available on the net for sewing machines!

I thought only a 66 has that white stitch length slider. That's not a 66?

eta: Nope, the 99 can have a slider like that. How to ID a 99: http://vssmb.blogspot.com/2011/08/vi...ingers_16.html

99 and 66
That A / B ratio is 50/50 on a 99 but not on a 66. And I think a flat faceplate is only on the 99s.
