Singer 15-91
DH did his normal "take apart, clean and put back together"routine. The machine has been rewired, the light housing was cracked and DH epoxied it back together (picture shows crack better than in real life). Foot pedal and cord are dirty, but sound- and genuine Singer. Serial number AH672621, makes it a 1948 vintage. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps497f10bd.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psa837c2e5.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psd56d3e0a.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps8ea0591f.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps08afc4e4.jpg This has a motor, housing and assembly off a 201, so the decal is different. The one on this machine was in much worse shape. DH had the motor all apart and had to scrub and scrub to get all the old grease and crud out of it. This machine has too much wear for me to consider it in the "collector" category, but it should make a fine using machine. I'm going to sew on it for a while this weekend to make sure. This one may already be spoken for, though we have another 15-91 out in the shed. My goal is to have all the machines OUT of the shed before the snow flies. |

I am starting work on a Free Westinghouse that was in a cabinet. It has the strangest knee controller I have seen. Before yesterday, I had not even seen a picture of this one.

What a contraption! A lady would not want to get her garter belt hooked up in that!

I hope I didn't offend anyone by saying that. I just had a sudden vision of being electrocuted by sewing machine.

By the way, the machine in working condition.
That the machine moves freely is a plus, and makes it a candidate for refurbishing, altho it would cost more to refurb than it would be worth on the resale market. Guess it all depends on what you want to do with it. I'm not sure what model it is...one of the "letter" models. (Model H, Model K, Model L for examples) |
Getting back to posting pictures of my collection - here are the two 15's. Still have not located an older 15 treadle.
Here is the 15-90. So far, this is my favorite 15. 1945 vintage http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps0aabced3.jpg And the 15-91, 1952 vintage http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps78b73309.jpg Cabinet needs some TLC - someone left an iron sitting on it for a bit too long. Not sure if I'll try to fix that or not- it's kind of neat . . . http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps52ece9fc.jpg |
Singer 101, 1922 vintage. The stitch length is the nob on the bed of the machine. Notice the pull chain for the light.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps764147f3.jpg The underside - quite different than other Singers of this era http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps418fe718.jpg The controller is built into the machine, and the knee bar mounted in the cabinet pushes a rod into the machine to activate it. And the potted motor on the back http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps31a45d4b.jpg This machine was considered high end and came with an extended set of attachments. I've acquired a hemstitcher with the appropriate plate also. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps0c391850.jpg It came with the darning foot and feed cover. I don't think this would work for quilting though. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psf2786621.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psaaebf89d.jpg And the cabinet specifically designed to house this machine. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psfc846423.jpg |
Singer 201 1948 vintage
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps33125873.jpg This one has Pride of Place in my Queen Anne cabinet. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psf679eaed.jpg I love the drawers and compartments inside. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps9fbde252.jpg |

So do I. The cat seems quite fond of them too.:D Nice machines! I have a question about the 101. Does it spill oil out of the central oil pan when you tilt it into the machine?
