Didn't take a pic before ripping into it, so here it is just after. I cleaned the dirt off with WD40.

And the finished product. I love this machine: Any reservations I had about not having enough space are gone. This was very necessary. Wood cleaned with (1950s bottle of) marveer wood cleaner.
It also came with the twin needle, which works beautifully.
EDIT: Oh, tri-flow throughout, and she sews like a new one.

I bought a cabinet and had no idea what machine was inside it. Seems the cabinet was incomplete and this lovely machine was hiding inside.

Absolutely I plan to use it! Otherwise, I wouldn't be too concerned with whether or not it works. My sewing machine mechanic son has already been to work on it!

I gave my beloved tan-coloured 201p to a friend the other day in an exercise to prove I can detach. So, on eBay on Friday night another tan 201P was set to go for $10. You would think I'd have learned by now now to do this but I bid $10.25 about 20 seconds before the end. 20 seconds to give the other guy a chance to outbid me. Well, I picked it up today :rolleyes: and it seems I'd contacted the guy a couple of weeks ago and told him how to fix it (in the previous ad he said "doesn't work - runs at full speed when switched on"). He didn't fix it. I removed the capacitor, oiled it and it's absolutely like new. It's one of the aluminium machines made in Scotland after WW2.
We're all definitely spoiled for beautiful machines. These were very demanded in their day and now go for nothing. This appears to be *the* time to buy, or am I wrong and they'll actually all be worth nothing in the future?

$10? There is no way I could have passed that up either.

Antique/vintage sewing machines are just novelties to most people these days, and they were made in such great quantities, that it is doubtful that they will be worth a whole lot, despite what some sellers believe, or try to get others to believe.

I have the hand crank version of your machine, same year too. I like to treadle it better, its the quietest machine I own. I love piecing and quilting with it.

Nice machines, again..... I've been on the lookout for a 201, probably won't find one until I get back downstate. The machines up here are more difficult to find. We are so far back in the boonies.

Thumper.... your 191 is really nice. I was just looking at the list of singer model numbers the other day and was thinking, there are a lot of singers that we don't see much. It looks like you've gotten one... congrats.
