Here is a matte black Singer that was just given to me today. The people paid $5 for it. It looks the serial # tag has been removed or has fallen off. So I need some info on it. This pics are not very good. The machine is wired into the cabinet and the plug is located on the back of the cabinet that then plugs into the wall outlet. It also has a knee control, but appears that part of it is missing. The motor runs but the machine won't sew. Obviously needs some serious cleaning. Thank you! Yes, the serial # is AD34B403. And I took off the silver cap next to the top spool pin, looked down in and it is a sludgy mess. I took some q-tips and got a lot of the sludge out, but need to get some longer swabs. When I turn the flywheel everything moves, the needles goes up and down and the feed dogs move, but it won't move the fabric, so I assume the bobbin area is as much a mess as the gearing above. I will tackle that tomorrow. Thank you for telling me where the Serial # was. I hadn't seen that before. Now I can do a search and see how to dismantle the electrical so I can get the machine out of the cabinet for cleaning and refinishing the cabinet.

Yeah, it is a very cool cabinet. Never saw one like that before, and the veneer is in pretty good condition. But all that electrical attached to everything....think I will have DS look at that. The leaf on the right has something missing that it won't stay up. Doesn't have a space for a lever to hold it up like the left side does.

Here is my 1957 201k. Picked this up at a thrift store for $17. She came with a bunch of bobbins. This machine took quite some time to get ungooked and now she runs pretty smooth. The last person who had her decided that grease was the thing to put on EVERYTHING. Still a little loud from under the bobbin holder, not sure why. Now I understand why people are so crazy about these machines, the stitch quality is amazing and I've never free motioned with something of this caliber. I was in awe at its free motion quality. It kind of blows my 15-88 treadle out of the water. I'm not sure what do now, this machine is freakin awesome, but I think I should sell her to someone who needs her. I'm keeping my quota to 3 machines.

Grann of 6 - the leaf on the right is suppose to drop down. It has rather unique hinges that allow it to do so. Only the newer style table (with a 3/4 -1/4 split) stay up when open.
I have this cabinet but with a different machine. I also have a 101 and it's in a different style cabinet. DH went through mine (really didn't like doing that ) and got it up and running. I had to buy a needle plate for mine, but everything else was there. I think they are very neat machines - and they came standard with an expanded set of attachments. I think I posted pictures of mine a while ago - on this thread. |

I wanted to add my little collection so I really hope I am doing this right.

I wanted a treadle cabinet to put it in, and while searching found the WW8. [ATTACH=CONFIG]439906[/ATTACH] This one got picked up at a auction for $15. Still need to find a power cord for it. Am I right that this is a 201? [ATTACH=CONFIG]439908[/ATTACH] Thinking this is a Clone, I love it and it sews so nice. Also grandma's machine. After this one I got to looking for a zigzag. [ATTACH=CONFIG]439910[/ATTACH] Found this one on a local FB yardsale page for 20.00. Not sure about it. Not any info on internet that I could find. It does work and was pretty clean. Any info would be great! Got to find a zig zag presser foot for it. I also have a few newer machine and a Industrial Singer 281-1. Thanks |

I had a Kenmore that had a tiny piece of gunk in the bobbin area and, from the sound of it, I thought it was a goner. Once I found that little piece of gunk and got it out of there, it works like a dream. Check that everything is smooth in there. Then, maybe you should try it in the treadle :)
