Problem with 301
My 301 will sew perfectly for a while then just loop on the bottom for an inch or two. Sometimes it sews without doing this at all, what could be the problem? I just recently got it, I oiled it, and changed the needle. Could it be the wrong size needle?

Hmmm, Does this happen right after you raise the foot to change directions maybe? Perhaps the pin that releases the tension is sticking when you lift the presser foot? Then working loose and releasing the tension like it should.
The looping is a sign of no or insufficient top tension.

I agree with Joe. Unthread the machine (do NOT pull the thread from bottom up; instead, cut thread above tension and sacrifice that bit of thread by pulling it through the needle and out of the machine. Always do it this way or you risk pulling lint back into the machine's tension.) Take unwaxed dental floss and floss the tension, especially in between the discs. Re-thread and see if that helps.
