Explain how to get a 1/4" seam out of the machine for sale and that would be enough for me. Because the first plate marking on my left homing machine is 3/8". A quilter will know she needs 1/4" and will judge whether or not a left homing machine is for her.
But then, I was using mine a few nights ago. Sewing off the edge of a twill pocket flap with a zig zag to mend it. A drop 1/4" HIGH with nothing else used to level the foot. And only riding on the left feed dog. And it still made a satin stitch I could reverse with pride.

Now that I've learned the difference it's one of the things I check. It's not a deal breaker for me anyway although I do prefer centering machines. It's just good to know. I think I would be a terrible sales person. I'd tell them if it was left homing or not and why it might matter. OTOH if we're selling machines and we're members of this forum, chances are we have more than one to choose from anyway. I'd try to match a machine to the buyer's needs. Worst case is I'd sell one and have an excuse to go get another.
