Resources on how to disassemble/reassemble long bobbin winder
Hi Everyone,
I've got the bug - and my hubby is an enabler! He got me a rust-bucket 1892 Singer 28K to learn on. "Surprise, Darling - look what I got you!" - and yes, I was happy about it.
Everything re stitching is turning, going up and down etc. But I am going to have to take the bobbin winder (it has the big tyre on it) apart to de-rust and clean it and then I need to put it back together and adjust it so everything works "just so". There's not a lot out there on how to do this and while I have the adjuster's manual, that isn't too forthcoming on disassembly/reassembly. (That would be, pretty much useless.)
Does anyone know of a good online tute/blog/vid where some angel of mercy has done this and documented the process with their hints and tips? I'm very lucky with this one - as rusty as it is the bit that needs "spring" to hold a long bobbin in has plenty of pep. But the tiny-toothed gear is not meshing well enough with the worm to make the gear turn. So I already know in advance that will need adjusting. But of course that means I can't see how the "feeding-fork" that directs the thread to the bobbin is relative to the bobbin so it fills evenly end-to.end. My guess is that will need adjusting too by the time I've taken it apart and cleaned it and got it together again.
Any tips or hints, as always, gratefully received.
Thank you... Megan

I don't know if this will help as it appears some of the images are missing. Help needed with Singer 127 bobbin winder The person who posted the images has not been active for a couple of years.
I did one that was super rusty. I soaked it in a solvent that took the paint off. I didn't document doing it. I thought I had taken pictures of it soaking, but have been unable to find them. I do remember it being quite fiddly to get it back together, I also remember that there is a spot where it doesn't make good contact, but I can wind a bobbin.
Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do.

Thank you Janey,
Yes, I spotted that thread too but like you couldn't see the pictures. I think I'd like a bit more detail too, if I can get it. I don't think I want to take the paint off at this stage either. It may well need a repaint anyway but I'm trying to learn how to do what I'd do on a really nice machine. If you found it fiddly it looks to me like there's a bit of a need for this kind of info out there... If I end up mastering it on my own I'll document it somehow.

Funny Janey and John - I can see that one to you. Do any of you have any idea what I might have done yesterday that made me think I'd posted a reply to somebody (a quick reply) and then didn't? I was pretty sure I'd clicked on "Post Quick Reply" after composing it... Thank you... Megan
