I have a 201-2 and love it. I bought a walking for for it today. Am looking for a vertical feed vintage machine, probably a Singer. The 201 in the treadle disguise would be great. Yes, a lot of ladies converted treadles to electric in the early 40s when electricity became obtainable. They felt it was so "modern" and a lot of treadle cabinets went away because of it. Anyone who saves an old machine of any kind is a hero indeed.

My 201-2 looked just like this one and it cleaned up fine. She really shines now. I still have to clean the innards too, before sewing much. Can't wait to really use her. She is heavy, but fine.

I found a better picture so you could see the decals, but I got this photo from the Singer website, it is not the one that is for sale.

The one for sale is shown below, $45 + shipping. The bobbin winder is located higher on the machine, AND it has a longer bed. This machine is the 127K, a hand crank converted to electric. And look at the throat space!!! It's huge! The bed is 14-1/2" wide which means the throat space must be 8 or 9 inches wide. This machine was built between 1910 and 1916. The gold leaf is absolutely beautiful. The decal is called the Sphinx.-

I found the manual online! It's a pdf file.

I joined the Board just so I could thank you, Christine. I resisted her 201 but I came home with 3 featherweights after she offered a couldn't-miss price if I purchased all three. One that needs the light assembly but sews very well essentially cost me $25.

I won't be keeping all three because I plan to give one to my sister and my mother fell in love with mine (okay, I'm keeping the best one, but I've wanted one forever. :-) ) and started telling stories of her early sewing days with her featherweight machine. Mine will probably stay at her house so she can use it, too. That leaves the one that needs the light, that I'll try to install and use at home in NC.

Thank you again! Your post seems to have made three people very happy!

Yes, she wrote to say the FWs had sold. I"m thrilled you could get them! And thank you for putting me out of my misery... those things were singing to me in my sleep "lover, come back to me, you know you want me".

If only I could get the 201s to shut up now.

The 201s did look good, but I have one and a 404 I'm working on now and a vacation coming up in early June. My DH has been teasing me about bringing home sewing machines as souvenirs from Mew England. Don't tempt me.... :-) I would in a heartbeat!
