Default Mom's rescued Singer from fire and garage storage

Hi again. Mom's machine--the one I used as a child we brought back from NJ
has tirned out to be a Singer model 66 or 66-1
Cleaned up very well except the beautiful marking are pretty much gone in places.
Enough left I can see the pretty red ovals. The bobbin holder is fixed.
Now we are looking for a cabinet to put her in so we can tet her out.
Everything moves well. I have tried yard sales and Salvation Army near here
and in NJ. We are in NC near Raleigh. Anyone know of anyone with a good used cabinet for a
treadle. The cast iron base is in great shape. I want to try her so bad---hope someone can help
and tell me where to look. thanks for listening.

I'm glad you have the machine working. I know how you feel.

My wife suggests Craigs List and Freecycle in your area. You can put in "Wanted" adds as well as "For Sale" adds.
Freecycle is a Yahoo group and you have to sign up to be a member. But it's worth it in the long run. We've already scored a really nice 66-18 out of it and given away a heavy winter jacket for a homeless guy. It's worth the effort.

Good luck.

Thanks Joe
I have never heard of Freecycle and will try it along with other adds and continue looking
in Craig's list. Thanks for replying. Got to get her running and see what she does
It has been a long time since I have "treadled" !!

If it has the spoked wheel and a motor boss you could turn it into a handcrank while you wait for a treadle base.......

You do need to have this machine in a base of some sort as there are parts on the bottom of the machine won't work right if you just set it on a table. I have a 66-1 with red eye decals, it sews beautifully.

Correct. I removed a motor from my 66 and added a hand crank. I have it sitting in the base of a portable case. I have to connect with my woodworking BIL to make me a nice rectangular base for it. Like this: http://www.treadleon.net/woodshop/bu...dingbases.html

Mine, too, sews beautifully.
