Default Singer 3012

Can anyone tell me about the Singer 3012? A friend has one, and we were wondering about the price when new, and whether it is a good machine.

"IF" the 3012 you have is the same as the one I found pics of on Google then it's about a mid 90s machine ± a year or two. They are decent to OK but do have plastic gears and stamped parts.

I have a 4622A from the early 90s that we use occasionally and so far it has given us very little to complain about.

As for the original price, I have no idea.

Joe

Thanks Joe. I'll let my friend know. So glad to get an approximate year and a little about the quality.

I would not purchase any sewing machine that has plastic parts. Been there, done that. Replacing the gears is a pain in the pa-tootie.

I totally agree with that part about not buying machines with plastic parts. I bought a Singer 6212 new in 1986,nastiest machine ever, it died finally after 3 years and then I bought a new Bernina 1031; sewing was finally fun again. The Bernina still lives here, my grand daughter sewed a lovely reversible tote bag for herself using the Bernina. She just loves the 1031, asked if she could take it home...silly girl of course not. She had fun making her tote bag. Got to pick fabrics from my stash.

Sometimes it depends on the machine. I think that a few people who own say the Pfaff Tipmatic/TipTronic/etc machines might be surprised by how much plastic is in them, but I still find them quite resilient.

I have a Pfaff 6122 and its the machine that I use for darning my jeans regularly, and I do that knowing how much plastic is in it.
