LOL!!

When do you know you are a vintage sewing machine addict? When you get a "404 error" message on your computer and immediately think of a Singer sewing machine.

The info in the 500 service manual should work.

I am laughing at this comment because that is exactly what I thought. Had to go back and read the original post and the "404" answer and realized that the "404" was the error message since I have gotten a few of them recently not the machine number. What a funny exchange and yep, you are all addicts and you are spreading the disease!

Had me laughing too. I'm grateful that you all let me play with you. I can do sponge-baths and take temps, but you people resuscitate and do major surgery.
Miriam, thanks for the link to the Sewing Dude site. I had some good chuckles, and when I downloaded the service manual for 401, 403, & 404 Singer Machines, got some answers to questions I had about the 404 I am still struggling with after someone worked on it before it arrived at the thrift store. It isn't nearly as easy as the other 404 that had a straight pin in the lever to lift the needle plate, plus the two pearlhead straight pins jammed way down in the oil holes.

Someone just put that link in the other thread but I found the info you needed so I passed it on here. No credit to me...
