I'm not in the boonies at all, for South Dakota, I'm actually quite metro! I am only 4 miles off I-90 - and 60 miles from the downtown center of the largest metro area in the State! And 12 miles the other way is Mitchell SD, home of the World Famous Corn Palace. aka Worlds largest bird feeder!

It's one of the reasons DH and I decided to move here, so we could live "rural" without being in the middle of nowhere.

hehehe - and you should see what I've been finding on Craigslist on our travel route. Now I'll be rather disappointed if I only come home with the Singer 12 LOL!!!

I'm in the WRONG place! CL around here has a lot of sewing stuff, but most of it is either junque or way over priced stuff. Rarely do you find anything really juicy to go for.

but Joe, I'm heading towards your place! I've found some of my best "deals" in St. Louis, including that MOP 12 in the cabinet for $150. Right now I'm eyeballing a neat cabinet in the Columbus area (half way between St. Louis and Kansas City) and several cheap "dashboard" machines on the north side of St. Louis. I love the way they look, so plan on having a "wall" of them set up in my Machine Shed. They'll be in bases, and I do plan that they all be functional if possible. And the main critiera - under $50 (prefer under $25).

I also find almost nothing within 100 miles of home, I usually have to get about 400 miles away before I start finding neat stuff. That is why I don't mind paying shipping. Sometimes $30 shipping is cheaper than paying for the gas for the drive.

The grass is always greener. The truth is unless there's just nothing around at all deals can pop up anywhere. You just have to devote the time to look and be ready to jump when you see one. I'm right in between two major cities, a couple hours in either direction so I have pretty good hunting grounds here. When I look at shopgoodwill though it seems like some of the best deals on machines are around Indiana and Michigan.
Macybaby I hope you and your husband have a great roadtrip when you pick up your MOP machine.

Your winter photos look just like home. A blizzard tends to give us time to work on things. I love your story and your collection. I wish I had your self control.
