yup I have done it again, ......took up a "costume challenge" and I cant decide if I should stick this new Riccar into the treadle and give it a try or if I should stick with what I am used to an try to improve my sewing skills with what I am used too (singer 306)

Is that for you? What's the pattern number? Looks like it might be just the ticket for my pirate costume I want to make. I'm pretty sure mine won't be ready this year though.
Can't help with the decision. Maybe both machines for different tasks?

Man, if I was going to make that, I would go with what I know. Play with the new later.LOL Good Pattern too. The light color fabric really looks like Linen to me.

As a serious student of period clothing for reenacting that pattern makes me want to hurl. It is not historically correct. You need to research just a tad. Just for giggles there is a friend of mine at "Tiger Lee Fashions" who does a bunch of cool videos with pirate period correct dress. He has lots of videos that kept Wilbur and Lovie entertained for a couple hours about a year ago. We dressed up as pirates for PI Day.

Well, while I apreciate the sentiment, I should point out that period correct is a bit of an issue in and off itself as "pirates" have existed for (and continue to exist) for the better part of 500 years.
They were comprised of Many different ethic and cultural back grounds and to pinpoint what is correct one would have to portray a particular historical figure. Also for the most part every one of the crew members except the captain was most likely little better than a slave...sometimes impressed, sometimes a captive living only because of servitude and very likely to be dressed in little better than rags. The intent here is to have a "costume" that is "real clothing" and not cheap tissue paper and spandex......to wear for one night while handing out candy as a volunteer at the local hospital....also to be period correct one would have to have access to materials other than what is locally available at my towns one and only fabric store (JoAnnes)
