Vintage Sewing Machine Shop.....Come on in and sit a spell
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and the desire of certain vintage machines is similar.
Some would die for one of those big ugly beasts, the 31. While others would argue that the machine to own is the cute FWs. Some only look at Singers, while others covet the Lady Kenmores or the Necchi. When it comes down to what is best, it really is what makes one happy. And in the end, we are just the steward of what is now mechanic art.

i am at the hospital with dh now. Has been here a month. Chemo is finished and we are waiting for his immune system to start working again. He will be here another couple of weeks at least. I drive 80 miles round trip daily to be with him. I'm doing ok but sewing and machine restoration are on hold. I read every day to keep up. Thanks for checking on me.

I was helping my sister and the other church member clean out a storage room at the church. We found 2 vintage sewing machines. One was a singer and the other was a regal paveway, made by The National sewing machine co. I have never heard about the regal and can't seem to find much about it on the internet. It's small like feather waight , but it is real heavy. Dose any one know anything about it?

So sorry to hear that. I buy all of my vintage machines off craigslist but never have met anyone in a parking lot. DH and I always go together to their homes. I got my FW a few years back from a lady who lived a 2+ hour drive north of us. We drove up there, had a wonderful visit with the couple, they gave us a tour of their beautifully wood interior home. She had 6 handcranks she was selling and her DH had some really nice specialty wood he practically gave my husband for him to make furniture, lamps, etc. out of. So, the very next week we drove our trailer up there and I bought 2 of her handcranks and DH bought all of this man's wood. We enjoyed the trip both ways, both times. Twice I have purchased machines off craigslist from women who lived in my daughter's city. I have sent them a check and my daughter then has gone to pick and hold the machines until we get together. I do agree that you have to be very careful, especially when carrying cash and be ready to get out of something that doesn't look or feel right.
Hope you find a better and sweeter FW from someone who treats you like they would want to be treated.
Irishrose, Your Leader has beautiful decals!! Have you made anything with the Leader? It looks to be a happy machine.

No, not until I have time to see why the irons are hard to treadle. The machine turns smoothly and easily when you use the handwheel. She came that pristine, but I will clean her more and oil her before I do try to relearn to treadle - it's been a long time. I said I'd sell her when I received my Redeye, but I don't think so. The 128 and Admiral can go.
