Vintage Sewing Machine Shop.....Come on in and sit a spell
Well folks, I saw this on out CL:
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/atq/2729752864.html, and got excited hoping it could be the one I'm looking for. I finally called since he's not responding to email. It has a long bobbin. At first he said it does have the feed dogs, but looked at it while I was talking to him and realized it doesn't.
He said he's not real technical and can't send or post any pictures. I told him I'd have to find out from my friends what else I need to ask to figure out if this is what I'm looking for. It's about 80 miles away from me, and I'd have to figure out how to get it home.
Is the fact that it has no feed dogs, a long bobbin and is a Davis make it what I'm looking for?
Thank you!

Charlee and Nancy, This is way cool!! Now I don't have to use my toy Singer for chain stitching. Well, After reading the thread, I was on a hunt for information-part of the fun in collecting and learning for me. Thanks to google images, I was able to see what the spider looks like. I have another gadget, attachment, that looks very strange-don't know what that's for. So, at first I didn't know which one was the spider, but I should have realized that something has to fit into the rotary area to take the place of the bobbin. Another interesting mechanical device that fits cleverly into the machine to use. The Standards are very nice machines.
Does anyone know what this is used for? How it attaches? It looks deadly. It was with all the other attachments that came with my Standard.

Anyone looking to buy a Featherweight card table in the Modesto, CA area? You can probably get it in the $70-$80 range if you're interested. I'm looking for a 400/500 series card table, so can't use it, but I can hook you up with the seller...

I was given a Singer 127 this weekend. Fella is making a table out of the irons. Grrrr !!! The only part of the wood that was any good was one side drawer and one center one. He was thrilled that I would take the machine so it wouldn't be scrapped. (I told him to keep me in mind in the future). She is a Sphinx decal Made in 1926, but in awful shape. Locked up tighter that a drum !! I found a rusted box of attachments in the drawer I got, plus two shuttles and 3 bobbins.
Some kind of bug like a dirt dauber had built nests inside the face of the machine about 1" deep. I cleaned the face out all last night. I bought PB Blaster today and it really does work to loosten rusted parts. I was able to completely disassemble the inside of the face and get all the mud out. The wheel came off easily, but none of the innerworkings are moving yet.
Free though, so I'm up for another crazy challenge.

Oh crud!! It followed me home tonite, and whined so piteously at the door that I had to let her in! Meet the new lady of the house. She came with nothing but the "clothes" on her back (a style 56 cabinet)...that and a BUNCH of dust! Now I'm thinking I shouldn't have sold all of those slant shank parts!! LOL Oh well, I still have a pink egg buttonholer...and the other stuff is easy to find on ebay, or the local thrift stores!
What's a girl to do? I couldn't leave her out in the cold, could I? (I really didn't want any of the slants, for some reason they didn't appeal to me! LOL)

Charlee, it sounds like you and I come from the same school of housecleaning...if I can still find one clean space to set something down, it's clean enough!! LOL Too much other fun stuff to be doing...and I HATE housecleaning!! But when company is coming, I do the cleanup pretty darn fast. I've never been accused of being a neat freak!! LOL
What if you spent all day cleaning & then died? Look how much time you wasted on work instead of quilting or some other fun thing. I say leave it all for your children, that'll teach 'em.
