To put the new one in there is a little making on the top of the tension and it goes at the top. Then set the set screw.

Ok the picture is as clear as mud as far as the little making. There is a little C shape part the screwdriver is resting on - that goes to the top of the machine when you 'plug' it back in.

I took the tension apart. Here is how I put the parts in order. Then I take a picture:

Then after I clean the parts, I put them back in the order they came out. Top going toward the front of the tension. Of course that is assuming someone didn't fool around and put it back together backwards some time ago.

You are working with springs so hang on pretty good.

This part has to be held down so the end will go on and 'seat'

You can see that the inside has to be held down - this works to get it on or off. Not every tension is made the same. But this one works that way and so do quite a few. Some tensions have a little tiny set screw in the end cap, this does not - it has a little notch to fit the little holes in the middle thingy - turn the end cap until it is engaged.

You do not have to remove a tension to rebuild one. I recommend not pulling it out if you don't need to put it on another machine. I have a machine that someone didn't get the memo about the set screw - the little canister that holds it all was broken and we had to drill it out - the machine is a terrible mess. Maybe also be unusable. Some of those little canisters are made of real junky metal.

I did not detail how to pull out the post and pin. http://www.tfsr.org/publications/tec...achine_manual/ This place has a better manual than I could ever hope to write - plenty of info on posts in there. There is a set screw on the side of the little canister holding it in. Some times the post is threaded into the canister. This does not cover plastic wonder machines. Their tensions can be anything and much harder to replace.
