That is only a picture of the original, was my mothers we found it in her trunk when she passed away in 1986. I have intentions of trying to figure it out, and then make one myself, but too much on the go right now.....

I love the border on the New Mexico one too...but sure looks like lots and lots of work! I'm not sure which direction I am going. My design has an EQ applique pattern on it and I actually kinda like it..but will probably change it before I get to that point.

Welcome Donna. Your mother was a very talented quilter. Her quilt is one of the prettiest I have seen. I hope you get your book soon. It is fun just to look at all of the pictures and drool over them. I haven't started working on AOTH yet. I am finishing up a couple of other projects but I have my fabric, thread, and embroidery thread. I think this will be the prettiest quilt I've ever made and it is the first one I have made with a group. It will be great to learn from those who have experience in hand applque.

I have something to share with everyone, you can indeed use acrylic paints on your fabric, you only need to use "Fabric Painting Medium", which converts acrylics to Fabric paints. Mix 2 parts acrylic paint with 1 part medium, and only apply to washed and dried fabric, after painting you will have to leave your painted fabric for 24 hours to air dry.
While I have been waiting for my book "AOTH, I have been playing with the acrylics....
Also need to use a fabric brush with the acrylics

This will be one of my first quilts. I have never appliqued before. I have never sew-en by hand as far as that goes. I am left handed and dyslexic. My new quilting friend is trying to help me "god bless her heart" she has no idea what she has volunteered for and don't you all tell her. Hope she is still my friend after all of this. I got one leaf done yesterday and I have cramps in my arms today. I must have been a bit tines what do you think. Wish Her luck.
