The Quilter's Cache www.quilterscache.com has block patterns for nearly, if not all, states. Some are stars, some are not. Don't know how we would narrow the topic to 12 blocks; maybe a drawing for the states to do. We need input from our international friends as well.

I am seeing lots of discussion about using blocks specific to a theme that might not be good for everyone. Since they are just quilt blocks they all will be wonderful regardless of a religious or state theme, or any other. You can name them anything you like. If you don't like the name California you can call it Rome instead. If you don't like the Crown of Thorns you can call it Cactus instead. The theme is just to get a series of blocks for us to try, isn't it.
Our overall theme is just to have fun and end up with a quilt we made ourselves out of interesting blocks. No theme is going to get in the way of that.

Thank you, PD. In this regard, the state blocks would be perfect for a BOM. There are enough of them that a size could be selected, and 12 blocks picked from among that size.
The state blocks are truly lovely, are widely accessible, are varied enough to please everyone, and will get my vote.

It was fun to do. And the patterns are still there on HGTV.
Here is one I came across while looking for the above. I thought it was really cute and wanted to post it: http://www.allcrafts.net/fjs.htm?url...127084851/http://www.quiltershome.com/sscof.htm

Your right the first one is really cute. I liked the houses. I might just have to learn to applique. I couldn't get the other link to work for me.

Thank you for the link to the Pat Sloan patterns. Those shoes are fun. If they don't become a BOM I think I'll try a couple for "just because". I know I saw a pair of "flip-flops" somewhere that I could add to the mix. This could be very cute.
