QNSue ... what happened to slowing down a little?




icky cold rainy blowy day here ......... I was out in it and came home and have yet to feel like I have fully warmed up. 20 kms away they had quite a covering of snow. Here, only snow showers.

Then came home and thought I would sew and get that 2nd runner finished. Had the quilting well on the way last night. So kept track of my settings and started up ...... only to discover it was skipping stitches. Cleaned my machine again, re-threaded top/bottom, changed needles, played with tension ....... to no avail. What am I missing?

So I turned it off ... made supper ... watched the figure skating championships ... and am hoping that overnight it decides to work as well as it did on Friday night.

Any suggestions??????????

QE--Yes, DS helped pick out the fabrics, did the piecing and even started the quilting--he was 10 at the time (he put 3 rows together QAYG), then he got bored of it. He did the blocks a little over 4 years ago and then we moved and he had other things to keep him busy. Then I learned how to do QAYG and he decided he wanted to do it that way. He has worked on it here and there, but asked if I would finish it as a birthday present (his birthday is next week he'll be 14!)...so I happily did. :) It is flannel front and back...so VERY warm. A couple ladies had to "break it in" (took naps) at the retreat...there was a couch in the main room. Not sure how they could sleep with all the chatter, but several snoozed on that couch!

What a Super Mom you are CarrieM ... and special memories for both of you on the story of that quilt.
Have you been able to keep its finish a surprise for him for his birthday?

QE--nope, he saw me working on it. I was going to just wait to work on it at the retreat so he wouldn't see it, but once I got to looking at it and seeing what needed to be done (and as many breaks as I need with my shoulder) I knew I better start before the retreat.

SIGH!!!and I have been knitting little legwarmers for the girls.... and shopping for Christmas deals! we dont do much, LESS IS MORE, but I feel the need to get exactly what they want for the best price, and BEFORE the madness begins... (more dollars for fabric:D) and my youngest DD bday is Nov29, so I shop WELL ahead of time so that I dont have to go to the store AT ALL during the crazy time!

Wise decision, Carrie, to get your son involved with it, but to stop and not force him, but to let him decide when to come back to it. He will appreciate your help and prize the quilt a little more. Sounds very cozy and looks great.

QuiltE, there are just some things a gal has to do; with mice getting in to that linen closet, I was going to clean it up before bf came into my room to take care of me. And yes, when I was working and hiring housecleaning help at $36 an hour, I did clean a bit before they came into my home. My bathroom attracts mice and bugs, its unreal...so I use Tom Cat poison to keep down the population explosion. Bf may never see that linen closet, but I knew it was there and what it needed. Dh was a real dear and helped a lot on this job and on the guest room as well. My house is clean and ready for this week. Yes, I am taking it easier, asking for help, and not reading of a night so I do not overuse the eye. All of that is hard for me to do, especially the last one. And not quilting or using the sewing machines. Sigh.

Getting older is a humbling experience. Thank goodness the youth here has been raised right (from the cradle to sixty plus years) and lend a helping hand with a smile. Times past, I have always jumped into things feet first and think later about how much work it was to do it right the first time. Now I have to stop and re-think before I go into action. And ask for help: facts: I cannot see well. I cannot jump two inches high anymore or go on hikes. Have problems getting in and out of the car. My pace matches a snail's pace. But I still have miles to go before I rest. Slowing down, yes...giving up....NO! Seeking solutions, YES.

Seek the solutions for better life and count your blessings today. Celebrate the day. It will be gone tomorrow.

I have been workin' on a Doll Quilt that goes ta one 'o my retreat friends. It is drivin' me crazy. I can't git my borders ta lay flat. The corners are curlin' up. :( Every spare moment I have has been spent rippin' out. Then sewin' just ta rip out again. Sigh. I'm gonna git back ta it.
