Koriana - WOW! I keep coming back to look at your pictures - awesome. you can really visualize and then put it together. Can't wait to see more. And that fact that you have a hubby who doesn't let you gather UFO's - too much girl...
Dottie - what fun. haven't done a collage life that - maybe you should put a thread out there and start one to teach us.

I love all of these. Such different visions. Unfortunately, I had to take a step or 10 back from mine. I was getting too obsessed with the cloud and the sky. ARGHHHH! So I did 2 blocks for another swap and still find myself thinking about this. I want it to be scrappy and haphazard and I keep getting stuck in long strip mode. I am not beaten yet!!

I love the artsy ones that dotcom did. wow a new view on a creative approach! so many and none are wrong. you go girl!
dfelker, I think and this is just my opinion, that the harshest critics are usually ourselves. what you think and over think maybe if you did enough of it would turn out just fine. and if its your FIRST one why not just go for it and see what happens. what about doing strips then appliquing if you want some clouds on top of it? this way you have your base and you can add the top clouds after the fact? I usually use steam a seam light but everyone likes something different. I do however sew each fused item down so it holds that much better. a blanket stitch? or if your machine is better than mine lol a zig zag close stitch should hold it nicely. you can sew around the edge also with a straight stitch knowing that when washed it will fuzz up at the edge line and give you a totally new look. its your call. your quilt. tada. and worse case scenario when your done. you can .. donate it if you truly hate it. bet you wont. when you get the picture done then a row robin around it.. it can look pretty great I think. mine is a first time effort. come on!

I was pondering if you could go from squares to a curve seam and looking at the Australian quilt answers that for me. you can! I have done one row of darker sand in squares but now can curve from there. I don't see how you can go from curves back again so I will have to make this one about 15" or so. we will see. one finish up for this not two. pics still coming. I got distracted today. I know again! really! I walked through the sewing room after my doc appointment and saw this quilt I meant to gift for Christmas. a tad late. all it needed was trimming then binding. so I decided trimming is high priority. forget my other priorities. I am so bad like this. fling fling fling from project to project. groan. My apologies AGAIN. I wish my brain would work in less mysterious ways. started thinking about making lasagna and got scared. back to trimming to at least finish up one project.. sort of. lol.

Koriana, I love your colours...cant wait to see the finished quilt

Dotty....how do you do yours? can you teach us please?

DFeklar... I started off doing squares but found doing strips was easier. This is my first "picture quilt" I'm still working on my foreground applique... I'm hoping to get that finished before the end April.

I finished trimming the other quilt, made my lasagna and went to doctors. a busy day for brat. took a marvelous 2 hour nap when I laid down for just a minute to catch my breath. how did that happen? lol. today is going to be a serious nap day sigh.. dialysis. Its not painful it is however exhausting. and they are going to turn the machine temperature down which means I will freeze the entire 3 hours. I can hardly wait. not rushing for the back door but have to run out of here in 10 minutes! ah! bringing a tea bag. stop me from drinking hot tea I dare you! back to sewing tomorrow. I hope your playing with your fabrics? any ideas? any suggestions? there was a traditional row robin posted a while back.. love to see what your doing if your still doing it. Getting ready to start my row robin next and think it might be easier lol to do simple things to go around my quilt. hope? yes I am doing a whole lot of that!

Koriana, Love your colors, purples and greens especially. My favorites. I, too, am really impressed with your planning of a design then following through. Mine is sort of plan as you go and hope it flows.

Dotty, Thanks for showing us some of your other art quilts. I absolutely love that middle one. The perspective (pigeon eye view?), the flowers, the focus point of the lion. There are so many ways to do these kind of quilts that it just makes you want to try each one. Very inspiring!

Brat, I like your idea of the "tada" quilt. We're so used to the precision of a traditional quilt that it's kind of hard to let go and just "see how it works." Sometimes I labor over the color of one 2 1/2 square until I'm tired of it. Aren't design boards great.

Right now I'm working on the traditional star border at the top of the quilt. Haven't the energy right now for my tree row which I am going to paper piece, I think. I have three different tree patterns and I'm not sure which one to use or whether to make them all different.

Brat, Stay warm today!

Here is where I am right now. I am still pondering it. But none the less am ready to tackle it again this weekend. It is supposed to be rainy so that means extra sewing time for me.

We had an Art Quilt thread on here for a while. I use the iron on stuff, usually on sale. I have done a lot on my quilt & am so frustrated I can't seem to get it posted. Stay tuned. I'm combining traditional piecing w college.
