Since this is for a quilting or sewing group I would think something for their sewing room or area would be good. One of the items I have that I like most is a pin cushion for machine needles. It is marked with needle sizes and types, such as 'topstitch', 'universal', etc. I like it because, like all of us, I change needles frequently. I use a special pin to stick in the place for the needle in the machine. Most any size and shape pin cushions could be used. Good luck with your project.

How about some of these cute little chicken pin cushions? Jenny Doan of Missouri Star Quilt Co. has a tutorial on them and they are super easy and fast to make. I made one for each of the gals in my stitching group for their birthday, and they were super happy to get them.

Love all these ideas but could you post a picture of the gnomes you made? Would love to see them.

I made "Bah Humbug" bags for every guild member one year--The girls loved them and they can be made in several sizes.

How about collecting pretty teacups from thrift stores, and using coordinating fabric to turn them into pincushions. There are videos on YouTube to show you how to make them. You can also glue the cups to the matching saucers for stability.

the gnomes are under the swap for the Christmas ornament. I'll try to find the post.
I'm thinking of doing the bags if i can get pretty zippers.

our party is on Tuesday. I'll see what everyone else is giving out, but i'm leaning towards the zipper bag. Now, which one would you like to receive for a gift, and sewing or non sewing fabric???

oh, what kind of ornament

Here's one that's quick and easy and really gets used around our house. It's a TP Jumpseat. Sew a 5 1/2" X 12" quilt (any style, pieced or not, quag, part of a stray block, whatever). Add binding and a sewn strap or ribbon on each side about 12" long. Hang on the tp holder to keep an extra roll where anyone can find it conveniently.
