I would take it to a place that works with leather. Maybe call a place that carries leather garments for a referral.

If you have one local, a tack shop might be able to repair it there or have info on where to send it to be repaired. I do not have an expensive machine like that but if I did, I wouldn't use it for fear of damaging the machine. Like an earlier poster stated, an older vintage Singer or other machine would be able to handle it.

If it breaks your machine is she going to replace it? I wouldn't do it.

don't you have an old machine??? I never sew leather or heavy denim on my fancy machine...they just don't like that kind of stuff.
just use a regular Gutterman all purpose thread...it is stronger than it looks.

OlgaRoad - Upcycled Leather Jackets; Each jacket is unique! We take used leather trench coats and reconstruct them into these leather jacket. Due to this process each of our jackets is one of a kind! The Waldron is a classic style often referred to as a “bomber” style. It has two large zip-up hand pockets so that your cell phone won’t fall out. With its high neck lined with soft cotton ribbing and the cotton ribbing along the waist, this jacket can keep you warm and cozy. Little details like a loop at the shoulder and zip at the end of the sleeves add just enough flair to this classic leather jacket.

My new Viking says it can sew leather with a special needle and my treadle can handle leather but my Janome 6600P book does not mention sewing leather, so I don't thing I would attempt it.
