My sewing room started life as a bedroom. There is no overhead light. Does anyone know of portable lighting I can buy? I also think I need some task lighting for the work areas. Any suggestions?

Ott light is good. There are other brands that work just as good. I found a a nice light at Lowe's.

There are lots of different styles of Ott lights check them out. They give off a true light , so colors appear the actual colors.
Just an opinion but if possible every sewing area should have one.

Ott lights really are wonderful.
When we converted an unused bedroom to my sewing room we installed a ceiling fan with lights. I love it and it wasn't expensive at all. I think I got it at Lowe's.
Love it.

Once you find your lighting, you can buy OTT light bulbs and replace the regular bulbs. Much cheaper than buying the OTT lamp.

Floor lamps with multiple, directional heads with daylight flourescent bulbs will help a lot. Got one years ago at Home Depot reasonable.

I have an Ott light that clamps to the edge of my sewing cabinet. It has a long flexible arm that can be moved to wherever I need the light. I don't think I could thread that needle without it. I have another small Ott light that sits on the dressor above my Big Board where I cut & iron. I think I get enough good light without wasting energy.

I love Ott lites - they give off great non-glare light. I have a small table lite & just got a floor model. Joanns was having a great sale on Ott lites - not sure if it's still going on - but check out their website. The model I got was normally $249. on sale for $84.

I was lucky found a light with an arm and has a magnifier attached. I had hubby mount it on a piece of wood and clamp it to sewing table! Got it at thrift store!!
