Bargello quilts can be fun and easy to do do but, if you get one square in the wrong place the intire thing becomes a night mare.
I think some of the quilts have a mind of their own and an attitude that taunts the maker with "Just try to put me together" or how about this one " I dare you!"
I am working on a quilt now that keeps whispering to me "if at first you don't succeed, get another hobby!"

I agree! I just finished a really lovely outfit for my DGD's American Girl doll. Even though these dolls are larger than Barbies, and I've made my share of those too, they are still not a piece of cake. I didn't think I'd have to have the doll actually WITH me for fittings since the patterns would be exactly correct wouldn't they? WRONG! These patterns were just too small enough so that I couldn't get the doll's arms into the sleeves without ripping them off. The sleeves, not the arms. So after trying to get the clothes on the doll, I had to take out the sleeves and enlarge them. Not fun. But I learned my lesson. Have the doll with me for fittings just as though she were human. :lol:

When I worked on my denim quilt I had a moment where I wanted to chuck it in the trash as well. And I almsot did. My first quilt had been a baby quilt, but this one was a lot larger. So when it came to sandwiching the layers I found I had quite a bit of trouble getting them to line up straight and flat. I think I finally got it to work, but when I quilted a couple rows the top wouldn't lie flat against the back and it twisted up and wrinkled. I also had trouble feeding it through---I had the stitching at like 4, but I get over some parts and it looked like the setting was at 1. So finally got fed up with it, took the quilt, and proceeded to go chuck it in the trash swearing like a sailor the whole way there. My Mom convinced me not to throw it away. Figured out a way to work on it and came out with this nice looking quilt.

Thought I cut to do a mirror image in the center, these didn't end up mirror but were cool looking, so no problem. The neutral has a real small stripe to it, so it thought it would be neat for these all to go the same direction, HAH then needed more of one direction so have ripped to get it to go the right way. Then needed other colors to make it pop, then another and another, LOL and Grrr... now were way over throw size but the stripes will match !! All I know is I'm glad its not brain surgery :) I'll see if can post a pict of it.

Of all things right now it is half square triangles! I think the fabric stretches no matter how careful I am to cut, sew, and press lightly. I've recut twice already. I've done a kabillion of them in the past without having this problem. Oy!!

The trick for doing sleeves is to sew the top of the sleeve first then sew up the waist and down the sleeve to the wrist. if you want to put anything on sleeve bands etc do it before you sew it up. It is easier that way. It is a pity I live so far away or I could show you ALL the short cuts which makes sewing dolls clothes more manageable.
