how about it? do you have a scrap book, photo album, journal, how do you keep track of what you have done?
i got an album from walmart that has a photo pocket on each page and plenty of space to write. i take a pic of every quilt and write a discription
under each pic. i try to get a pic of the quilt with the person to whom i have given it. if i get a thank you note referencing the quilt i will paste that on the same page as the pic.
it would be fun to share how we document our quilting life.

My "journal" isn't that extensive, but what a good idea. I take a digital photo to keep all my projects handy. That way I can show my sister via e-mail. I also keep track of what pattern I used in case I want to use it again. Then in my quilting books I write what fabric I used, and the date, along with little notes. I do that with cookbooks too. Someday that will be our legacy. But in the meantime, it helps refresh ourselves so mark our accomplishments. Sara

I do, and I agree with you! I like to keep a quilt diary of each project, and this usually includes notes on the color and amount of fabric, a few swatches, the thread, the batting type. I try to take a lot of photos as the quilt progresses along. I've even kept track of the amount of time I've spent on each quilt...it's amazing how the hours can add up! A lot of my quilts get to become gifts, so it's nice to have a reminder of what they looked like, and that bit of history to remember them by.

I like to keep notebooks of project ideas clipped from magazines. Then there's the graph paper notebooks and blank sketchpads I absolutely gotta have to scribble and color block designs.

I should be more organized. I keep a folder in my computer with all my quilt pictures. I haven't printed them for an actual album but may do that some day. I do keep information about links & websites in a journal & lists of books that sound interesting. I do keep my graph paper designs along with color schemes in a 3 ring notebook using the large "cheap" photo pages. That's about the extent of my organizing so far. :-)

I think it's a fabulous idea, but so far, that's as far as it has gone.  .

I really should "get on the ball" with that!

    I'd love to see others.

I keep a photo album with a picture of the finished project, a brief description, the date finished and who I gave it to and any other pertinent info ...I also keep my pics on my computer but the best idea came from my kids.... they both bought me a flash drive for my computer so I can keep all my photos on them as well, just in case something happens to my computer!

I keep all pics on my computer and periodically save them on a CD. I have a small purse sized album I bought at walmarts right by the machine I use to develop my pictures. I take a Picture of a single block (close up) and then a picture of the finished quilt all labled with who got them. Lord knows I only have one quilt on my bed that I have made, the rest went out the door as soon as they were done. All kids and grandkids love their quilts and as my 14 year old GD says, "grandma, these aren't just quilts, they are treasures!!!".

I have not been quilting all that many years, but a sister bought me a quilt memory book and insisted I should be keeping track of my work. Thanks to her encouragement, I have pictures of all my quilts. The ones that were gifts have notes of who they went to.
I enjoy looking through the books and am really glad I have the pictures.
I have not kept detailed notes. I may wish someday that I had! :>

Rachel, What is that pattern in your avatar? It looks like a giant snowflake. I'm intrigued.
