Yep the dog would be put on right away with me. And I would actually make a quilt for the dog. Oh I have actually.
My seven month old puppy loves to be snuggle in bed. At night I actually tuck in him snug as a bug. He loves to be covered with a couple blankets. I made him his own fleece one too. LOL so I tuck him in and hug and kiss him oh don't forget I continue to rub behind his ears and off to lullaby he goes and snores. LOL yes I know he is quite spoiled. But I love him and he loves it.

I make everyone of our dogs a quilt of their very own......I started this when I got my first small dog and have continued the tradition, after all, they are part of the family!

When you give a quilt to someone and they give it to their dog, remember to some people, a dog is an animal not a substitute for a family member. They probably wouldn't let that dog have their very best expensive coat to lie on and ruin but they gave it your quilt! It doesn't sound like a compliment to me. I know some people treat their dogs like people, but some people treat their dogs like dogs and just any old thing - but usually a dog bed brought for that purpose- is for the dog. Know who your people and dogs are before you decide it is a compliment that your quilt has gone to the dogs.

I would be upset if I gave a quilt to someone and they gave it to their pet. If they want a quilt for their pet ask and I could make one. I don't give many quilts away for that reason. I have donated to the veterans and nursing home. They are used for the people!!

I wonder how they would feel if you did something similar with an expensive gift they gave you.

"Did you like that diamond tennis bracelet I gave you, Mom?"

"yeah, I gave it to the neighbor's 2 year old to play with."

An Arm Long

I made my English Springer Spaniel, Lucy, a quilt and wrote all around the border with quilting "Lucy in the sky with Diamonds". She sleeps on her bed beside mine and is covered with it on cold nights. She loves it - doesn't move all night long. In the morning I can hear her get up dragging the quilt along with her until it falls off. She knows it's bedtime when she sees me hold up her quilt. She jumps on her bed, lays down and waits for me to tuck her quilt around her.

I guess I'm a slow learner. The same thing happened with my niece with a baby quilt I had to ship to CA. Finally called her mom months later to ask if she got it. Next baby, I sent it so that she had to sign for the package and I could track whether it was received. She got it. No response from her. The third time, I mentioned to my mother (her GM) that she never acknowledged the quilts. That time I got a thank-you note so I know she got an earful from grandma. Later I heard from my mom that neice was really upset because she showed up at the kids' daycare one day to find that it was closed by the gov't for tax fraud and no one was allowed in. She was upset because the two youngest kids' quilts were there and she thought she'd never get them back. I had labeled them with their names and mine so she was able to claim them. Guess she liked them after all - or at least the kids did!

Maybe the dog always gravates to the quilt when looking for a place to sleep and it is on the couch or a bed and not in the dog's bed. And the family jokingly calls it the dog's quilt. When looking for the dog they usually find him on the quilt where ever it might be. You never know what a kid might say out of context. Just a thought that crossed my mind.
