Ditto, it looks a really good one. I have just tried one of those magnet seam guides, so reasonable to buy and of course AOK with the older machines, not with computerized ones.

I am quite impressed the magnet in them is a lot stronger than I thought so it doesn't shift easily.

I did not know that the main foot on the FW is 1/4". I'm going to try it today. Great piece of info... thanks

I love the idea of the clear acrylic foot with the marking on it. I have that in my ebay cart and I think I'll get one of those for sure. Thanks for the link.

The clear foot is your best, in my opinion. The ones with sidebars eventually warp, so your 1/4 is not accurate any longer. I took them off of mine.

I have recently acquired two featherweights but have only sewed on one. Have just been eyeballing the quarter inch as I was working on scrapquilt foundation squares, foundation being deli-paper. I do, however have the see-through plasticscrew-on foot that I used on my old Elna for 42 yrs. and re: the sidebar foot, I do not like it at all. Forgot that I also have the magnetic guide that I sometimes used on the Elna and almost started to use it on my computerized machine, when the lightbulb went off in my head and stopped me. The see-through is my fave.

What adapter are you referring to on your 1473? You mean the snap-on thing actually comes off? If so, that is wonderful as I really like my older design 1/4" foot and it would be wonderful to be able to use it on my FW without spending about $35 plus shipping for feet that I already have.

Thanks,

This is a very good site to go to; got the 1/4 foot from it and also the book which is an excellent source of info. Congratulations on your f/w. I love mine; it is the white/minty green one and I am currently piecing a king size quilt on it. I sometimes go to my Janome 6600 when it starts getting too big to handle and because I moved it to the kitchen island which gives me more room to maneuver. Enjoy.

Yes, you can unscrew the adapter part and then use any of your snap-on feet. Just use the screw from the FW to attach it to the FW.

Where did you find the acrylic foot? I love it, and I'm thinking I will need it soon. My featherweight arrives soon and I want to find all the right accessories to make it feel at home!

I, too, love my 3 FW. Since yours has not been serviced, my suggestion would be to buy a copy of "Featherweight 221, The Perfect Portable (And Its Stitches Across Time)" by Nancy Johnson-Srebro, or Dave McCullom's book (or both). You will want to check out your SM to be sure it is cleaned, properly lubed and oiled so that it doesn't "seize up" or worse. There are many FW sites you can Google for information. Incidentally, JoAnn's still sells SINGER Lubricant and oil as do most LQSs both online and in store. I am in the process of "conditioning" my first FW and can hardly wait to give it a go! I think I may try for one of the plastic feet, too. Good Luck and HAVE FUN!
