Half-Square Triangle Migraine
#101
I am having a problem with them today too.I cut my block 3 7/8 in. draw a line diagonally from corner to corner and
sew i/4 in on either side of that line. Then cut on solid line and have 2 hst. Don't know what my problem is but one block just doesn't work out right.
I do know I should use same ruler each time but I have 2 laying around and may have used the wrong one, duh!

There are so many ways to make these half-square triangles. I love: http://www.wondercutruler.com/
you can watch the instructions here as well as lots of tips and ways to cut other items. I also have stencils and, also for years sewed them on the tissue paper pads which I no longer see in stores. Wish I could loan you my Wonder Ruler. THANKS so much for reporting on the method that gave you trouble -- I will skip it!

I am not much for gadgets.
But I swear by this one for accurate HSTs.
I love this stencil product:
Maker is Sunday Best Quiltworks
They make 8 or 10 sizes of this stencil which allows you to make 16 or 32 half square triangles at once that are absolutely perfect.
SO EASY AND FAST TO USE. You just draw using the stencil and then sew on lines, then cut on the other lines. Voila --- absolutely perfect half square triangles. Crisp, accurate, perfect.
This was such a relief for me I wanted to share it with others. No connection with company at all.
To find them, google Sunday Best Quiltworks. The company also has a youtube video that shows how to use the stencil, but it is extremely easy and pretty much mistake-proof.
best,
w.

The Bias edges are giving you 'fits'. You might try starching both pieces before you cut. But what a pain that would be. Best to cut them with straight of grain on the edges and you won't have to be so careful. Good Luck. Sounds like 'lovestosew' member has a very good method of making these.
