Default Help!! Should I upgrade to8900-my 7700 having a bad hair day

    Hi everyione,
I am really sorry I havnt been on in a while. I had Lyme disease in 98, thought it was mainlygone but am on more meds since last year..anyway I was wondering if any of you have had similar problems. My lovely Janome Horizon 7700 is 3 and a half, she was serviced last year. The needle jammed on me at Christmas time and she went back to the dealer again and he did a complete overhaul, and another service just incase anything else was amiss he replaced the bobbin case and tried to sort out the problem with the fabric sewing through the dogs at nearly a fortyfive degree angle so she wasnt pushing the fabric through straight.Up till then she has been incredibly reliable.

Back she came again and now I am finding the top tension is rubbish. If I can explain-lovely stitches on the reverse but on the top at Auto just a solid line with little nubs from the bobbin thread. I figured this was the tension on top being incorrect. I have fiddled with the tension and can just about get something that looks like a line of stitches on the top using tension 1 and a bit. But tis not like she was.

I know this isnt right and am just wondering if you think this is going to be more problems. I was looking at the Janome 8900, and the dealer told me i could take it home and try it overnight (he's lovely!) but wondered what peoples thoughts were on this model. The only other alternative is quite limiting, dealer has Pfaff and Husqvarna but the Brother VQ2 is with another dealer further away. I have been with this dealer for 4 years and he has always been very honest and good to deal with.
Thanks guys, if anyone can help me decide it would be great!!

Sounds like bobbin tension is off. First make sure that there's no lint or extra threads in the case. If it's clear, then make TINY adjustments to the bobbin case tension. First mark the position of the screw with a bit of nail polish (varnish?) Then adjust. Righty tighty. Like a quarter turn. Test, another quarter turn test. Etc.

I would do an internet search on ratings for all the machines you are considering. There's a website with ratings on all kinds of machines, I just forget what website it is at the moment. I remember using it a few years ago when I bought my Babylock. Good luck to you. I fell in love with the Janome Horizon 7700 (with the red on the front) a few years ago at a major quilt show, and was surprised to read some negative ratings on it recently. Alas, I forget what that problem was, too. But you'll find it if you do a search for sewing machine ratings.

I would take it back to the technician. Maybe something is just slightly off. He should fix it again at no charge unless you did something accidentally. It may be he missed something.

Hi there, thanks for that..I feel it is constantly going wrong since Christmas and now I have lost a bit of confidence in it, but maybe I should just take it back for the third time and see what he says.He may be able to sort out the tension but I have no idea why it is still sewing off to a steep angle I was looking at the Brother Innov-i VQ2 also. Used to work for Jones brothers way back in the stone age as a demonstrator before they were Brother! But I dont know...thanks for the tips though, its really appreciated. I may yet look at the new bobbin case PaperPrincess and see if that helps.

I bought the 7700 too. Thought I needed the lights. Biggest money mistake I've ever made! Janome quit making that machine after so many of us had problems. Mine works well the first few days after a repair but develops problems quickly. I've tried to trade it in all over Texas and dealers laugh at me. It's their Edsel.

The bobbin thread showing through on top means your bobbin tension needs to be tighter OR your upper tension needs to be looser.

However, it sounds to me that you really just want a different machine.

I have the 8900 and just love it. It has everything a quilter could need, and makes a beautiful stitch. I have had it for almost 2 years. I have tried to FMQ on two other machines, and couldn't. When I tried it on the 8900, it worked beautifully. I just can't say enough good about it. This is the first Janome I have ever bought. I'm a satisfied customer.

A machine that's only 3 1/2 yrs old is having such weird probs and has been looked at several times already.....either the tech is failing or that machine is a lemon. I don't know about that brand, but I sure hope it is more long lived than that......
