    I had the same problem with metallics, my viking dealer told me to when threading the machine, skip the first hook on the top and continue threading like normal, i've not had a problem with metallics since i started doing that. (if that makes sense to you lol)

    I was just at the Houston Quilt Show, and I have been having the same problem with my metalic thread, one site reccommended putting the thread in a bowl and letting it reel out from there, that did help a lot, I only broke once per pattern doing it that way. But at the show I asked one of the vendors and the Floriani threads are coated so that they wont fray and break. I haven't tried them personally yet but here is their website

    I will try that on mine, because they are beautiful, and I bought 20 rolls last year that I would love to use up b4 I go buy the Floriani

    I also have found if you can to slow down the machine speed.

    use a special needle made for metalics and you have to slow way down. they really do not work in really fast running machines, stretch and break but if you go slow, and use the right needle they are beautiful to use!

    I have a Janome 6600 and use the metallic in both the top and bottom and haven't had a problem. Maybe loosing up your tension will help.
