I'm from Midwestern Ontario and a few of my favorites have been mentioned. I do love the shop in Exeter, beautiful and full of projects. The Quilted Nine Patch is beautiful, with an awesome restaurant called the "CrossRoads" and mercantile shop attached. There's E & E Cloths and Creations in Newton, the middle of nowhere, recently expanded and she offers classes as well. Her prices are very reasonable, sometimes less than Len's.

I picked up 2 business cards from a Quilt Show held in Teeswater last year. They are clipped to my book in anticipation of a road trip that might take me in their direction. "Thread's That Bind" in Maxwell, Hwy #4, and "Mothers' Fabric" at the Spirit Rock Motel, Wiarton. I have yet to visit them.

"Quilters by the Square" in Goderich is another one I'd like to check out. Not sure if they were affected by that Tornado a couple of years ago or not.

Hello Phranny ... Thanks for all the updates. I didn't know that Newton had expanded and must remember to check it out again when I am in that area. It was nice before and had a pretty good selection ... so I'm looking forward to the additions!


The Maxwell shop was a surprise to me when I was there in October. It has expanded it's selection with a move. So depending on when your card was printed, you may have to look for itjust down the road. I haven't been to Wiarton, as every time I've been in the area, it's been closed. NOt their fault, just my poor choice of days!

Yes, Goderich was blown around a little by the Tornado, but not so bad as some of the others in the nearby area. As far as I know, they are up and running and all is good again, though I haven;t been there since.

I'll add another couple ...

Heart N Home, New Hamburg ... very country selections with what is to me the largest selection of flannelettes and homespuns that I've seen. Also has giftware, so don't hesitate to go in when you get there. Go towards the back of the shop for the fabrics. And be sure to check out their classroom as there's patterns and kits along with lots of store samples to check out. I've never taken a class there but it is definitely THE BEST classroom that I've seen, yet!

Undercover Quilts, Fergus ... you'll love Virginia and her attention to you! You'll find it downtown, across from the Royal Bank and upstairs above the Pizza shop. The first time I went ... I could not find her. Now I love going there.

And keep your eyes open, as there's always some fabrics hiding in the oddest of places!

Sears, Monkton ... a couple years ago, I was in the are and asked for fabrics. Someone sent me to the local Sears pick up shop. Not a huge selection, but I did get some really good bargains.

And then this summer, same thing ...
Sears, Angus ... more selection than Monkton with a lot of novelty type fabrics.

Wow, QuiltE, you sure you don't want to organize a shop hop? You sure have been thorough!

Three others that I have visited, are run by Mennonites. Their cotton selection is good, prices are good, but not very large as they carry a lot of other fabrics too. Floradale has a nice cotton selection upstairs. I usually raid her scrap bin. Shady Lawn fabrics in Farewell is another fabric shop. They had an amazing supply of 2 - 3 dollar/ meter fabrics that I raided. I spent $57.00 there and was thrilled with my bags full of fabric. Jantzi's in Wallaceville makes my head hurt. She has fabric piled high and deep, and you just can't get a proper look at everything and I'm always afraid of making the piles fall over.

And I just recall another Mennonite store, north of Mount Forest, near Conn, but the name escapes me. They are Bernina dealers and carry fabric as well. Just looked it up in the yellow pages, and they are called Creekbank. She has some nice quilts displayed with kits. I have taken two classes with her.

I stumbled upon a fabric shop in St Mary's this past summer. My daughter and I were at the Piece Makers Quilt show, and thought we'd browse the town. I don't recall the name of the shop and she didn't have a great deal of inventory, but she had FQ bundles on for half price. How could I resist!

Sometimes the best shops are the ones you just stumble upon, and find the cutest fabrics that just call out to you.

I need to check out New Hamburg and Fergus one of these days. I could never find the one in Fergus, thanks for directing us there.

It's in the old general store and is quite enticing as you can see from the above pics. The nice thing is that they didn't go in and gut the place and modernize, but have left as much of the original as possible, including the fixtures and cabinetry and then worked around that to keep the theme. Besides ... the food is totally Mennonite delicious! Of course, you might pick up some baking at the General Store when getting your fabrics!

Haven't been to Farewell or Wallaceville. Checked the map, but where is Wallaceville? I'm thinking it's a blink, so not on the map!! And thinking perhaps one or both are "down the lane" shops, in a Mennonite home?

A friend lives near Creekbank and she raves about them! I was supposed to go there this week with her, but plans changed. Hopefully, soon! While in the neighbourhood, head into Mount Forest to Knotty Pine Dry Goods. It's off the main street next to Karen's Restaurant. A bit of on street parking or park across the street in the grocery store (Foodland?) parking lot. Found that one a few years ago, thanks to the guys at the local farm dealership!!

Glad I am not the only one that could not find Undercover in Fergus. I'd even asked at Tim Horton's next door and they said, oh no, there's no where in Fergus for fabrics! Obvious they weren't quilters! Now you have me thinking Phranny ... are we neighbours?

Another happen-chance place is Wallenstein General Store. Not a lot of quilting fabrics, but I do seem to come out with something, most times. Last visit there, there were several bolts of Civil War fabrics, which surprised me. Because they were so low priced, I didn't think they could be, til I came home and researched to discover they definitely were! Must have been part of a job lot sell off. Oh well, my stash really didn't need more!

QuiltE, Wallaceville is 4 miles east of Gowanstown, near Listowel. Yes, it's in a home, and as I recall she is closed Saturday and Sunday. I've driven out there on a Saturday only to be disappointed.

I'm located near Palmerston, so does that make us neighbours????

Phranny ... Funny enough, I was thinking of that area, knowing there is a farm by the name of Wallaceview, and knew it was Wallace Township! Neighbours yes, in that I am from the south end of the county! At least a LOT closer than may of our other fellow QB friends!
