"Old"Bernina 930 Record
#2
We just bought one for my sister in law at 950.00. She wanted one like her mom's. The prices on ebay are all over the place. The ones with the heel tap feature to bring the needle down (?) seem to bring more.

I bought a 930 that was practically new, about 10 years ago for $950. I took it to have it serviced and the service man told me that this machine was designed to become Bernina's workhorse, at the time it was built. But that it turned out to be to expensive to make for it to be a very popular machine. He tole me that I would never need another machine that it should last me for the rest of my life. So far it has proved to be a real work horse and I really love it.

I have 2 vintage 830s, not the 930, and adore mine. They've been my best friends for 2 decades, bought used in the early/mid 90s when I paid in the $500 range. Not exactly the same as the one you mention. They are indeed workhorses! And heavy as h-e-%%!

I bought mine new in 1983. My dealer then told me Bernina considered this machine to be a "semi-industrial" machine. It came with a heavy plastic carrying case & a nice wood sewing machine cabinet/table. I used it to sew everything, including heavy leather. I used it so much I wore the teeth off feed dogs. In all the years I've had this machine I only had it serviced a few times. It's a true workhorse.
You can no longer buy the original foot pedal, but they do have one that is a little bigger in size that works the same, i.e. heal down/needle down.
If you buy one & it doesn't come with the owners manual I think you can do a search & print one out.

I bought a 930 new and as it turns out it was a bargain even at the full price. As you can see it has held its value very well. And there is no worry of the electronics failing because it doesn't have any. A classic and versatile machine. Worth every penny of $1000 and maybe more. I hope you get a good deal. If you get it you will really enjoy sewing on it.
