I am working on a red hat quilt for a friends 50th birthday party the end of this month. I have a lap sized one done but have yet to quilt and bind it. I am not sure how to quilt it as I ahve not had much experience and can not see well to do stitch in the ditch. It is done in a log cabin pattern with reds and purples material surrounding the red hat material sqare in the middle. Wish I could show it to you but my digital camera does not work right now. Any suggestions would be a help Ionly have a week to get it finished the party is next weekend. blessings. Deb

I worked on a quilt as you go lap quilt today to show someone the technique. Its just a small sized one but all I have left to do is bind it because the quilting is done as I sew it together. Anyone heard of this method?

Yes, I do alot of quilt as you go. I watched the technique several years ago. And through trial and error, have come up with my way of doing it. I have done several that way. But I still also love doing hand quilting. I just finished 2 Fall quilts, Full size. 1 Christmas quilt, full size, I have 2 antique Maple Leaf quilt tops that where given to me, Those I will do by hand, full size. I also have 2 crazy quilts going, 1 full size, and 1 twin size, I do alot of ornate hand work on my crazy quilts, 1 of the crazy quilts is a gift, the other is a request. And then I just drew up my own design of 2 other quilts that I'll be pulling fabric for. 1 will be a novelty fall quilt and the other will be a novelty snowman quilt. Which I'm very excited about starting. But today I'm going to participate in the class here on the board. So I stay totally in to my quilting. I've been called obessive, compulsive, but alway in a nice way. And thats fine, I've been addicited for quiet awhile and I desire no cure.

Here is a lap quilt I am working on.....it is much brighter in person.
My friends Mother gave me 13 unfinised laps, they measured 36" and I am adding borders to them all to give to the sick and the elderly. The fabrics that the 36" laps came from small play productions from a dinner house in DesMoines Iowa named the Ingersoll Dinner Theater. So I feel privileged to do these....they are turning out pretty well. tlcquiltnut

Just on my 8th quilt in 13 months... only have the last border to sew on... the first one went to a granddaughter for her 21st, the second was mine, the next two were community quilts, and I have four tops here, one is a cot quilt I wanted to try, the next three are for grandchildren... just waiting to be quilted... have had other things on lately, had no chance to try the quilting... think I might chicken out though... I think the grandchildren deserve a decent quilt, not quilted by somebody (me) who doesn't know what she is doing !!!

Some ladies at a class I went to made a bunch of blocks of antique looking tea cups and saucers and gave the quilt as a present to the past president of their red hats group. It was really beautiful. They are all great quilters. I thought it was a great idea but it took some time.
