Dan, I'm so impressed with your journey so far. You did say you are homebound at the present time, but like someone else said, there really is something to be said for taking a class at a LQS. The "hands on" help is so much better than an online class in my opinion. There are little things that just come up that make a big difference . Also, many classes are free or not much if you purchase your fabric from them. Down the road, an online class is great but as a beginner a quilt class with a knowledgeable instructor that you feel comfortable with is very worthwhile. Best of luck in your quilting experience.

Welcome to the world of quilting. You will find all kinds of helpful information on this board. Everyone is very nice and eager to help. We share pictures and ask for help on even the smallest of things. Cutting up fabric and sewing it back together is a stress reliever for me. haha Relax and have fun with your adventure into quilting.

There is a series of videos "Manquilting" which are fun and instructional. He is associated with Jenny Doan, and she features him occasionally.

Or is it "Mansewing"?

Welcome from Minnesota, Dan. Don't worry about a stash. I buy only for specific projects, and a "stash" will just happen. Two things that I wish I had known when I started. Be sure you mark your machine so you can maintain an accurate scant quarter-inch seam. Trim your blocks to the proper size as you go. Other than that, and all the wonderful advice posted here, just jump in and have fun.

How about a quilt kit from Crafty's. They come with fabric needed and pattern instructions. I have made 2 of their kits and they came out great. One I did have an instruction problem so I called them and they walked me through it. How great is that? I did get these kits on sale { around $35.00}, but they were throw size. Check it out it can't hurt and welcome to the board.

Welcome Dan! I'm another 50ish year old man... a bit over 50. I'll add my $0.02 to the mix and say you've found a wonderful resource here with many very friendly people with great advice. Connecting Threads and Missouri Star are my go to online fabric shops and the clearance section at Connecting Threads is a bit addicting. Connecting Threads is also my go to for kits, they are generous with the included fabric so a few mistakes don't leave you short and they sell a quality cotton thread for an extremely reasonable price.

Most of all, have fun and in no time at all you'll be very accomplished at the art.
