You should use Sta-Flo starch( you can find it at Walmart). Mix it half with water and put it in a spray bottle. Dampen your fabric, then spray it with the starch. Then iron it dry. All of this is before you cut out anything. It really controls bias, makes matching seams easier, pressing better, and all but stops fraying. Then once your project is finished just wash/rinse out the starch. You will be amazed ! ! ! Fixes LOTS of problems. It takes lots of time to do this but I think you will be very please.

Your quilts for boys are great. They are truly masculine for the little fellows. I share your concern about all the bias edges on Jenny Doan's method making half-square triangles for this square. I made a sample so I would not forget about it. I cut my 10inch square on the bias and it made all those usually bias edges on the straight of grain. It does not waste fabric.

This block was fun to do. Just wish it didn't have so many bias edges! LOL. I even starched the hectic out if with Best Press. I used 9 inch squares instead of the layer cake 10 inch and it came out to almost 11 inches square. It is laying funny, it is square!
The other pics are of donation quilts I'm working on. And the borders are OK, just the way they are laying on the carpet. Ready to go to my SIL.
Now back to my Dear Jane.
