Has anyone used the paper piecing method where you do not sew through the paper?
my local quilting store offered a class a while back. You fold the paper back and sew the seam through the two fabrics but not through the paper. You pin on the right side to keep the pattern in place. We did it with bigger pieces than these pattern but I think it might work.

Ok I am very interested in this. LOVE paper piecing! I went to look for the book on Ebay - lots available. Question is - are the patterns in the book as well as on the CD? I only have an iPad and cannot download them to print from a CD. Thanks!

The CD I got with my book is only a tutorial. I was rather disappointed as it would have been so nice to be able to print off the patterns. I did find the tutorial helpful - but now every time I work on these I end up humming that darn song by Helen Reddy!
I cut my book apart so I could easily copy the pages. It's now in a three ring binder. It also makes it nice to take the page with the picture of the block I'm working on and have that next to me to refer to while sewing.

Stars looking lovely - hope you will all post more! I finished Alaska (think midnight sun?) and I am doing Arizona in teals and desert sands. Hope we don't lose power in the blizzard but I have two projects set up ready to cut. Fun!

Just got home from our road trip - picked up some 8x12 newsprint paper from Dick Blick's, and a 6" and 12" - add a 1/4" rulers. Hopefully that will make doing these a bit easier! Won't have time for another until the weekend though.

What pretty blocks! I like Alaska (as you can see by my avatar) and love the colors you've all chosen. Macybaby, I wouldn't paperpiece without the add a 1/4 or 1/8 rulers--makes it so much easier. I'm enjoying checking out the blocks in this group--and glad I'm not making anymore. I still have 12 blocks left to figure out what to do with--made table and bed runners, toppers, and a wall hanging. Anxious to see the next blocks from all of you.

Have too many other WIPs going, but just wanted to show you a quilt I call "From Miami to Mason" (Florida, New York, Massachusetts and New Hampshire stars). I was born in Florida, raised in New York, lived in Massachusetts and now live in New Hampshire. I also have a house in Maine, so I guess I will either have to make another quilt or add the Maine star to the back of this quilt.
