hehe, I think I got Stamplede-ed out 25 years ago. The official start date is Friday the 6th but they've (always?) had a sneak peak night on the Thursday. 10 days of this! Yee Haw. Thank Gawd I've got an SCA event to take me out of town of the final weekend {giggle} - pity they didn't make quilts in the 11th century ...

JeanieG ... what a wonderful holiday for you and your DH. And the Island visit to look forward to. Especially the quilt store! Anything on your mission list this time?
GGal ... I am still envious of your retrest centre at your LQS! Keep wondering how close to being neighbours you and JenniKy would be?
JenniKy ... Now that'd be something, move to a locality for the LQS availability!
Muv ... Thanks for the link. Funny thing, I thought about cling wrap on the weekend, and didn't go there, thinking it wouldn't stay put. Will definitely give it a try! I did try a silicone sheet (cheap cutting mats for kitchens) as I'd seen some mention they used them. I thought I was getting more drag from it, than without, so went back to the without stage. I have seen the Supreme Slider thingy, and even seeing it IRL, I still wondered if it was worth the $ ! So opted not. Besides it didn't look big enough to really make a difference. You mentioned vinyl? Tell me more please. Also, interesting that some are saying the spray basting caused missed stitches ... eeks! I'd never want to have to give up my spray basting! I'll choose not to hear that for now!!!
WOW!!! FMQ on your Treadle ... you must have wonderfully strong feet and legs with that workout! Cotton gloves .. do you wear them to protect your work from soiling? Or do you find that they help you hold the quilt as you work away?
W4Me ... Thank you! And yes, maybe Monty needs some blush marks. However, we all know that our Mounties are serious sorts, and can keep their composure in guard duty .... love how people try to get them to crack a smile at those times! So I think that's the mode he's in, being that he's on Sentinel duty, as Muv determined! Sure hope you have a pic or two to show us of Canada D'Eh debuting on Canada Day!!
Liz92B ... you've got me on the SCA? Yes, I'm sure that the life that comes to Cowtown is not for all! When I was a kid we went west on a family holiday, and stayed with cousins in Calgary for the Stampede. It poured and poured and poured the night before ..... floods in the streets. The next day was beautiful for the parade. Most of what I remember were the crowds and so as a kid I couldn't see much .... and then the sunburn I got. I don't remember the stampede other than us going to the Chucks and watching them. Now that was FUN and lots of action!!!!!!
Back to Monty-talk ... BTW this was my first "serious" FMQ project and I truly did enjoy it, despite the challenges that I dealt with. So I'm soaking up all the input and feedback that I can get from each and everyone, so I can progress and develop my skills. I didn't think of it last night, but will take some pics closer up to try to show the stippling that I did.

Thanks!! ... I had googled and saw that, and then saw lots of other SCA acronym possibilities!!! Surely, they made quilts way back then? Maybe you'll show us some of the pics .... and of yourself dressed!! What costuming do you have? Neat!

QuiltE - I toyed with the idea of a Supreme Slider, but I'm a cheapskate and wasn't keen on forking out 28 quid on something I could only see on an advert online. So I took a stroll into the kitchen and got some clingfilm and put a layer over the bed of the machine. No need to cut a hole for the feed dogs - the needle will puncture the hole it needs. Also it stays in place for ages, and if you need to replace it it costs next to zero. There was discussion about this in the vintage machine section. Read this thread and watch the video mentioned in post 24 - it gives the link.

Dublb - can you get him to sing Yellow Rose of Texas for us?

I did so enjoy that link though on FMQ. I have a 15-91 and a Necchi BU sitting in my dining room and have never cleaned them up nor sewn on them. I better get that changed. I was really upset the other day FMQ on my Bernina Artista with Coats n Clark and have thread breakage frequently. Now, I have to confess, I am a spray baster and might not be willing to give that up. But, I have successfully FMQed before on the Artista but not with the C&C thread.

I'm an 11th century Celt living in Anglo-Saxon England ... I died at or because of the Battle of Hastings in 1066 ... that's as much as I could come up with - essentially I wear a sack {giggle}

SewExS ...
quid = pounds
like we say
bucks = dollars!
Here's a site I use for money conversions

Jenniky...since you will be going to Danville for treatments, did you know that they have a wonderful quilts shop/ retreat center there? Have you investigated living in Danville? http://www.threadsoftimefab.com/. Here's a link to the quilt store. I understand that there is also a very good one in Lafayette but I've never been there. I live about 35 miles south from there.
Our next visit I was hoping to scout the two LQS's. I will take a look at Danville. LOL DH and I have a long list of demands that must be met by our new society... The area we are looking at in West Lafayette is a two hours that was our main beginning factor when we were looking where we would move to. But you have an excellent idea.
QuiltE - I thought about that.. however at the point we started scouting.. we had found everything except visiting the quilt store. I have that planned for this next trip to Lafayette.

Better still ... just move into the Retreat Centre!
While an LQS is seemingly vital to we quilters, I'm sure it's really not a great influencer in the overall decision! Happy Home Sweet Home Hunting!
